The River Tyne

kevmac47:
Impressive looking 8wheeler, V8, 560. It must be close to 30t with all that pump equipment,
It sounded fit when running the jetting equipment. This spot is the car park beside the Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel. It’s actually right on top of the North bound road tunnel.10

I reckon you wouldn’t get much change out of £500K for that machine Kev, a normal stainless 8 wheel vac tank is circa £220K.

That’s what I was thinking Pete, it’s a 13reg, I wonder how long it’s working life will be?
With 560 horses it won’t ever be strained, but the engine is always working, either travelling or pumping. Regards Kev.

Morning Kev,
As you say the engine will never be strained but I would want at least 15 years out of the chassis and then refurbish and remount the equipment on to a new chassis, even the milk collection companies remount tanks 3 or 4 times. I bet that equipment can shift some liquid, our bog standard vac tanks will pull 26,000 litres on in around 20 to 30 minutes but the equipment on that is way above ability! Cheer’s Pete

Pete, On the subject “bog standard” do you separate equipment used on mains, ie. clean water and dirty as in sewers? Regards Kev.

Hi Kev,
No we run all ADR tanks, glass lined for acid and stainless for the rest of the waste. That is a very specialist area, we have hired in vehicles to do jobs before now but those are way out of my limited knowledge and I leave that to our industrial services division.
If you look at Koks (Dutch manufacturer) website you will see some of the products they offer and they are very impressive looking outfits and with a price tag to match!

Caught this coming in the river yesterday, are we going back to the age of sail to appease the green lobby?   Regards Kev.

HMS Echo. Naval survey ship. Back in the river at North Shields.

I didn’t know there was another ship called Queen Elizabeth.
Regards Kev.

Took these Sunday, there was another in the flotilla a bit further upriver, but I couldn’t get near enough to snap it. They are both Royal Netherlands Navy ships.Regards Kev.

Caught this coming in the river today from the Black Middens carpark. The tide was quite low so the notorious Black Middens rocks are partially visible. In the past they’ve been the graveyard of lots of ships, as you can see the dredged channel isn’t exactly generous!
It’s hard to believe that 100,000 tonne supertankers negotiating that channel , in the days when the shipbuilding industry dominated the river. Regards Kev.
