My Training Diary...Now Passed! YAY!

brush a kerb

Did it rock the truck
Was anyone on the pavement near that kerb
Did it damage the wheel or tyre

If no to all the above then it’s a minor not a serious if just a one off.

It didnt rock the truck and no damage to the tyre. There was no-one on the kerb either. Its probably just me, i would rather totally miss it rather than leave it on a 50-50 call with the examiner if you get me

23rd August

The Day of the Mock Test.

Today see’s me arrive an hour later at the training yard (on time) and to be honest I’m pleased with the extra hour in bed. I arrive kind of refreshed and more awake than normal, however with one little problem…I forgot the Jaffa Cakes…NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! How could I forget them??
After filling out the tacho, we get under way thru Colwich, Sandon and get up to the outskirts of Stafford before heading over to the reverse pad. A quick couple of practices on both the reverse and braking and soon we are on mock test.
Thankfully we incorporate the corner which I fell down on yesterday and…I’m pleased to report that after changing my approach, I go round without any doubt of kerbing it. YAYYYYY!!! A little after 70-80mins later and we pull up to signal the end of the test…8 minors. In my view, if I was marking myself, it would have been extremely lucky if I would have passed. Maybe that’s just me being a perfectionist.
Tomorrow is THE day of days. I’ve been learning all the ropes and experienced everything that could come up on test and in working life. It’s now up to me to be patient and apply all that I have learnt and put it into that hour slot. Here’s hoping for the best eh?

Until next time folks…

Rog i would never call myself a natural.

Most ‘naturals’ don’t regard themselves as such.
Those who THINK they are good usually make lots of noise about it :exclamation:

Unless you do something ‘out of character’ I cannot see you having a problem.

Rog do you remember that guy with the signature about kerbs and 15 year old girls (you can brush against them but you can’t mount them)

24th August

The Day of Days!

Well today see’s me go for the test for my cat C at Swynnerton and to be honest I spent most of the night awake with just about everything going thru my head…I need to approach slowly on that corner…wait for it to clear before going…best to wait and give away a minor rather than cut someone up…

Soon I’m back awake, check the clock…3:27am…crikey! I then try but ultimately don’t succeed in getting any sleep.
Finally alarm goes off and I’m quickly down getting some brekkie. And more importantly I’m tucking into the even welcome Jaffa Cakes (I could actually survive on this for the rest of my life after this week). The rest of the morning goes into a blur after this. After spending all week trying NOT to think about today, over the past 24hrs I have done nothing else but think about it!
A quick drive from Hednesford to the outskirts of Stafford goes great! Apparently I would have had no minors…after this it goes downhill. It was up to me what we did this morning before test, so after thinking about it there is only the one corner in my head (come out of test centre turn right and right again) so we attempt it and shock shock horror everything is great…bonus!! Continue up to Stone then the proverbial hits the fan, kerb it everywhere, no indications, wrong gear, racing the gear…hell I even stalled it!!
Arrive back at the test centre wondering what the hell I have coming to me, not the feeling I wanted going into test.
Now the rest goes like a serious blur and the hour of driving seems like 10mins in reflection. I arrive back at test to be told to park up on the left…switch off engine when I’m ready.

CONGRATULATIONS I’M PLEASED TO TELL YOU, YOU HAVE PASSED!!

Woohoooo!! I’m now smiling from ear to ear, and even as I write this up the smile hasn’t budged one millimetre!!
May I take this time to thank Ken who has been a legend all week, in keeping me both sane and relaxed. Grants of Cannock I would recommend to anyone hoping to do their C or C+E!!
Right now I’m off to get some shut eye!

Hope this diary has been useful for someone and many thanks to everyone who has either posted and /or read it!

Until then hoping (and praying) that i will find a couple of odd days just to boost both my confidence and experience level like.
