About that Volvo in the 4th pic, pictured firm has been part of the Altead group for a wee while, nice to see a wagon in the old livery.

Last Monday all the traffic exiting thhe M20 at junction 10 for the A20 towards Sellindge came to a halt just before the Tesco roundabout because the ■■■■■■ vehicle was blocking the road. Everyone waited and waited expecting to see the wide load. After about 3 or 4 minutes eventually something slowly appeared …a French registered lhd 2CV !

Followed a couple of minutes later by what we were really waiting for, 2 of ALE’s Trojans returning empty with the swan neck bogie loaded on each trailer. They had obviously been on another trip to Sellindge substation. Slightly different configuration to below:

I don’t reckon the waiting crowd was all that sympathetic when that little 2CV showed up eh

Those Trojans truly are some impressive looking wagons, one might even specify them as the modern day Scammell…

Cheers for the link, I’ll enclose a link to what they looks like “in the flesh”…

Excellent picture restoration Patrick. The pictures are also great. Something special about the former times.

Would this be a Pacific?

Froggy55:
Would this be a Pacific?

Yes Wynn’s ran six of them.

(Click on any picture twice to zoom in)

Wynn’s Pacific’s were originally built between 1942 and 1945 by the Pacific Car & Foundry Company of Renton Washington who supplied many heavy six wheel drive armoured tractor units to the US Army for tank recovery with many of them later being sold on after the war and employed on civilian heavy haulage operations.

One such company to take advantage of these surplus WW2 vehicles was Robert Wynn & Sons Ltd of Newport South Wales who became renowned for their six superbly converted examples.

All six were registered for UK road use and were given the following names…
‘Challenger’ (Reg No YDW 356)
‘Conqueror’(Reg No HDW 122)
‘Dreadnought’ (Reg No GDW 277)
‘Enterprise’(Reg No ADW 228B)
‘Helpmate’ (Reg No GDW 585)
‘Valiant’ (Reg No 1570 DW)

Well, compared to the ones operated by French companies, Wynn’s Pacifics look much neater and better re-bodied!

Hi Dig.
In those conditions we never turn of the truck so when sleeping just abit hight rpm and you are fine. As for the locker that one in the pic is no heat. But in my new one i have the colantsystem from the engine running in there and a fane that blows the heat out so no more wheat gloves so verry good
Todays weather -3 but everything is so wet and cold. Im thinking maby move downunder looks more warm there

Danne

Good day Danne -3 sounds a bit fresh still for me,interesting the coolant lines into a fan forced system as you say it would give everything a chance to thaw /dry out,The Shell company trucks here in the north of the state some years ago had small diesel engines mounted behind the cab with an air conditioning system for the cab and as they were water cooled from the truck radiator system the main engine never cooled down which improved the engine life,V8 Macks.
I had a system called Ice Pak mounted on my last truck it had an air cooled single cyl diesel engine running a seperate cab air conditioner system which was handy for a good sleep on hot nights it kept the batteries charged which also gave you a back up if the main alternator failed and a back up for the main cab a/c and used less than a litre per hour.
It does get a little warmer here summer time in the north 50c ambient road temperature can be experienced and we have had several in excess of 40c here at home over the summer months which is just north of Perth and in the heavy freight low loader game it would be a steady steady operation as nothing worse than having to change blown tyres on a 40c day but i.m sure you would soon work that out if you head our way.
Like your hard hat.

Cheers Dig

The Ice Pak is mounted between the fuel tanks and the front drive axel.If you double click it explodes the picture a little.

Hi dig! Its great now more wet gloves! I try to take a pic so see how it looks. The icepac thing there must be great for u. We have something thats sits on the roof that will make your nightsleep in the summer nice and cool. Dont remeber what its called. Maby Patric knows.looks like one of them old AC the M/E trucks had.
But i still prefer the heat, change a tyre or two at -25 no fun… but it is what i is eh. But i dont go on the longhauls so often any more. So feed up sleeping in the truck, kinda looking inte chaninge work…

My pics are from a trip we did together 3years ago up north. -30 when we loaded then i dropped to -15 and we had a bad snowstorm for a whole day but made it.
Im sure i posted some of this pics before but here goes agin

Danne

Cracking shots Danne  It’s much warmer now though eh…

Yeah only -2c so t-shirt weather :sunglasses:

Some from this week then.

Danne

Indeed it is mate, I’m still wearing me shorts… :open_mouth:

Interesting Volvo EC650, never saw one before, looks like a Akerman…?

Hi mate! Yeah its custom made and they build 6 of them. Use to unload woodship and timber from ships at mills. I heard this was the last one in use and its from 1996 so it could well be an Åkerman.

Danne

Taylor’s Peterhead

So here is some pics of my heater system. In warmer weather i can switch of the lines.

Danne
