Grassed up....

DF40, cheers bud, yes, got those figures in me head and will produce them when required

Jeez!..

What a two faced foppy numbnuts he was.

Knowing agencies like I do, win or lose you might be damned. If they do decide you were at fault (which you weren’t) obviously you won’t be driving there again. If you win, the agency might decide to keep things sweet with the client by not sending you there anyway.

This is another example of the utter bollox that this job throws at us. You go about your daily business and out of the blue some complete crapstorm is thrown at you. In days past the gaffer would have told the roidhead to just ‘do one’.

Totally agree.
Having a good time at work, making money, it’s effin HARD work but the money is good, and along comes a …a…problem like this, with no foundation, no truth in it, and you think “Whaaat, where did that come from”? And more to the point …why?
I have no intention of leaving the Agency or the job, I’m going to fight this ■■■■■■■■ to the end. If I get binned? Ok, I’ll go do me class 2 (Again!) and me class one, I can afford it now.
I’ll follow Sammys career path and just dodge the bullets along the way

Although there may be no legal definition of ‘too heavy’ you are more than able to do an individual health and safety risk assessment, if you feel a package is too heavy to lift ‘safely’ then don’t lift it alone, get help or use equipment to move it. You suggested a trolley, a sensible option, Mr He-Man wanted to show off, more fool him. I would point out that you followed the guidelines for manual handling, followed closely by, are you lot paying my wages for today or do I take action against Mr He-Man in the small claims court for loss of earnings and deformation of character?

I’d go to citizens advice.
As sounds like you did all the drops completed the job. Yet haven’t been paid for the work.

Is this your word against his? Are there any witnesses to what happened, the customer who signed for the delivery? I was delivering beds once and the second"man" didn’t want my help, he would carry heavy things himself. I had customers saying to me how can you stand watching him struggle? You cant fix stupid. A two man TEAM can get things done.

Putting the grassing bit aside which is totally out of order, 20 or more years ago this thread would have had a totally different reaction by way of you been told to be a man and bloody carry the 50kg piece, but over the years so many people have been brainwashed into accepting this H&S culture and taking every last bit of it literally. So what if you get a few aches, pains, scrapes and bruises from a bit of handball, many years ago it was accepted as part of the job but the cottonwool brigade are takingover the asylum.

mabey the guy thought you were taking the ■■■■■
mabey he thought you were being lazy as you never took one of them (on your trolly)
mabey the guy just dont like you or the way you work.
either way, listen to the complaint.if its truthfull,be truthfull,if it has added on extras (which most complaints have to make them worthwhile),lie through your teeth and tell them its not the 1st time you have refused an offer of coke,or whatever from him plus he tends to be in your face agressively ect…

And we used to use children as chimney sweeps and sent them down pit. Thousands have died due to industrial injuries and diseases but you think we should all be stupid like you and man up?
This is called progress and for good reason too. Time you was extinct.

its called being a snowflake and being indoctrinated into the h&s snowflake world of operating.
a 50kg box from the back of a truck onto your shoulder isnt too bad.
yes,its heavy, but no biggy unless your a woman or a wimp in which case you would be better off not being a driver and looking for a shift in kfc.
its only the same weight as an old bag of cement and its not as if its a dead lift handball from the deck. plus there was only 3 boxes.
dont be a fanny and have some respect for what the job entails.

Steve, Dont forget to give us the outcome of the interview w,ill be interesting.

With you on that diesel dog but by reading what the OP has said it the ‘meat heid’ that’s moaned about the aches & pains after the fact.( To management )
He never said anything at the time? Most would ‘man up’ & do so but obviously just wanted to show his superior strength then moan about it later
I push, lift & move stuff on a daily basis that perhaps I shouldn’t by myself but I just get on with it. Then again I don’t disagree with anyone that wouldn’t.

You’re agency, they can decline your services anytime they like, but all companies are pc now. I suppose it’s a bit late, but all companies have a health and safety mission policy on their website and I’d throw that back at them. Whatever you do, don’t try to argue the issue with what you thought because these people will run rings around you. Throw their H&S policy back at them and put them on the defensive instead. Good luck.

fair comment there…

50Kg in a package 1.80mx50cmx1m is just too awkward for me to pick up, I’ve not got the arm length, he has.
If it was a 50Kg bag of cement/sand/whatever, depending on how far it’s got to be taken, sure, I’d have it on me shoulder no problem.
At the end of the day he complained about me refusing to carry the packages. This is not true.

Interview was with Agency boss. A bloke who I find is firm but fair.
Anything in brackets is me supplying background info.
Not sure I should be pasting this, but doing it and asking forgiveness is easier than asking permission

GP (Agency boss) On any occasion, have you ever sat in the cab or even refused to help any crew member deliver any goods.

WD (Me) In the strongest possible manner, no, I always help & offer to help whenever possible

GP Recently you finished 2 hours late & I spoke to you about this, please can you explain

WD The customer ordered 2 miele machines, 3rd floor & 1 to be taken away
(Miele washing machines weigh 100.2 Kg).
Me & Nick called debrief asking for a bit of help as we knew this would take time, so maybe to take a few jobs off us. There was nobody available, so we carried on. We installed the 2 machines, but the customer had a problem with the wifi
(Yes…wifi on a washing machine and tumble drier. The client had no password as it was a building-wide inet, so we couldn’t set up the wifi. However, the customer did not want to have to press the OK button twice, to cancel the request for wifi info before starting the drier program, and so he refused to let us leave until we fixed it, this is not in our remit.) which meant we were there for 2.25 hours. We then completed all the other jobs, but obviously finished late.

GP Apparently, you refused to help deliver a Trampoline & sat in the cab, please explain

WD L***** is a young man who takes pride in his strength, he talks about weight lifting, his prowess & scraps & fights that he says he gets into all the time. I think I’ve worked with L***** 3 times & he talks about this all the time, which doesn’t bother me I just want to work & get on with my job.

Arriving at the Trampoline job, I dragged out from the van the 1st of 3 50kg packages & said I’ll get the trolly. L***** immediately replied, no, it’s OK I’ll take it. To which I replied something like you must be mad, but ok. He carried the 1st package across the road to the customer & as he carried this packed, I dragged the 2nd package to the tail lift. I then git the 3rd package, meanwhile L***** had already taken the 2nd package. He then came & took the 3rd package, so I closed the back of the van. As a normal procedure, I went in the cab & set the sat nav up for the next job.

GP Was there any discussion about this delivery from either of you

WD No, he seemed quite proud of the fact he had carried the 3 packages, but there was no animosity & we carried out the rest of the day in good humour/.

GP Were there any other incidents similar to this Trampoline one

WD Yes, many – If a package is over 25/30 kg, depending on how far to the customers door, I would always use the trolly. L***** never uses a trolly & states it’s OK, I’ll carry it.

WD I have worked here for 6 months & have not been told of any work complaints from Partners or Agency. I like & enjoy the job & strive to do my best & yes, it is hard work. However, I have never refused to carry packages or help my partner in any way. To be honest, I am quite upset by this allegation from L***** & cannot understand how or why it came about & it is totally untrue. However I would like to state that I was told by another colleague, that L***** was really unhappy that he was not driving on this day & during the day made multiple comments about my driving style

GP Only yesterday I put (Me) forward as one of my drivers to be guaranteed 4 Days work as requested by J****** ******* (Senior bloke) who said yesterday that this was fine.
(They’re looking ahead towards summer, some drivers have left because of the lack of work so GP was asked to put forward 6 of his most reliable and able guys to be guaranteed 4 days a week from now on so we would stay on. I was lucky enough to be named as one. This was just yesterday before all this ■■■■■ happened.)

Just waiting to see if I’m in tomorrow now.

2 hours late. ■■■■ happens. This happens to me 2/3 times a week through no fault of my own.

I cringe when I hear management/ agency/ whoever conducting their selves in this way.Taking the morale high ground.

Suppose they’ve got to investigate complaint though.

I’m sure youll be fine. Answered in a good manner & they obviously rate you.
