LTD Co. Insurance question

Hello everyone.

I’m looking for a little help understanding insurance requirements. I’m interested in setting up a LTD company performing mainly a Removals type Service using 3.5ton luton vans. Looking at insurance for haulage or carriage of goods for reward and not sure which I fall into.

I know I require PL insurance but not sure what other insurance I may need. In this business I’d like to have maybe one non-driving employee besides me and I would also like to hire vehicles not above 3.5tons for use in this business.

Is anyone able to suggest which types of insurance would allow me to perform the above?

With thanks.
J.

You’ll need specialist removals insurance as general good in transit won’t cover you. You won’t get much on a Luton either approx 8-900kgs less if it’s got a tail lift. And stay away from any van the rates just aren’t worth it. Facebook people want a full house for less than 80 quid and expect 5 star service. Gumtree just as bad as any van for prices

Why Go Ltd for this the expense just doesn’t justify it sole trader would be the cheapest way to go tax wise. Could be and idea later on if you can get to the stage of an 7.5 tonner and a couple of staff. Speaking of staff have you costed there cost including tax ni and pension which you will have to pay and built that in to your price

Have you tried the British Association of Removers? …

bar.co.uk/

They will be able to give you all the advice you need regarding insurances etc.

It’s only 2k per year to join if you’ve no previous experience of removals
