Scrapbook Memories

When I was a kid instead of investing my hard scrounged pocket money on "Spank monthly" I would cough up 2 bob for a copy of "Commercial Motor" or a "Motor Transport " .As they piled up in the corner of my bedroom my mum decided it would be a good idea to chuck them away,after the threat to leave home didn't work a compromise was to cut out the bestist bits and create a scrapbook,the result of this was 1000's of cuttings that ended up in a box. here are a few of them ,they may be of interest to someone. I remember seeing one of those Krupp cabbed Atkis in Southampton about 1971,made me do a double take after spotting the big "A" on the front.I was driving a Gardner 180 Atki mk 2 like the one in the first pic at the time.

I too used to spend my pocket money on Commercial Motor and Motor Transport as opposed to Spick or Span mags (they were handy pocket sized mags of a certain nature that may have appealed to young boys like myself .Apparently. :roll:

Unfortunately,my mum and I never worked out a compromise,so when the wardrobe door finally wouldn't close,they all got put in the dustbin along with hundreds of brochures from AEC,Guy,Leyland,Volvo etc. :cry:

But I've always kept my Scania brochures,got one for the 110 that's dated 1968 I think.

Some wonderful pics there,especially that Ferrymasters AEC outfit.I had the Corgi model with the Scammell unit,still got the unit somewhere,but the trailer is long gone.Probably failed the MoT.

And who ran that F reg F88?

Righto a few more then but first to answer KWs question ,the operator of the "F" reg 88 was Turkish trading and transport.

Keep em going got a tear in my eye here my dad worked at cyprien fox at tower hill then got moved to chobham farm stratford they used to go all europe with them old atkis and then the clarkson group split it to Howe european Enfield and alltransport stratford wear they had 2 of those atkis a big j v6 cummins and a lhd 110 scania and early alltransport fridges and tilts with speedex shipping on Boyzee remembers that merc of SGH i bet

What great pictures! I ordered Truck magazine when it first appeared in my local newsagent but the lady refused to sell it to me because it had nude girls in it! My mum told her it was the trucks i was interested in so she was ok after that.

Some real gems here. Thanks for taking the time to post them. As a kid, most of my clippings got pasted to my bedroom wall. Oh how I wish i'd put them in a scrapbook instead. Like the fact that you've got the text to go with the picture, as it makes them even more interesting. Did'nt realise that Bussings were imported into the UK.

Just got in from work (3.00am :shock:

) but thought I'd have a quick look before bedi -byes so seeing Bonkey is about here are a few tippers.

Second that, I reckon that WhiteTrux 89 is the one I had in '83, the number is very familiar but the only picture I have to hand at the moment has my lady standing in front of it. :roll:

However it wasn't still silver in '83 although I seem to remember another one was.

this guy was an ex demonstrator from guy motors, as a few of the older members will notice it has a wolverhampton registration. my grandfather bought this from guy motors when it was 6 months old. as a kid it was my job on a saturday morning to clean all the crud out of the tipper for the pricely sum of 5 bob. thanks for the pic, it has bought back many memries, not all of them good

I think WD reg Big J is a Warwickshire reg not Wolverhampton the NX on the Leyland Badger is a Coventry reg.

i used to have a book telling you all the towns and letters many years ago, i just tried searching the web but all i came up with was loads of private reg plates for sale. you might be right with warks for WD, its definately from that area, but remember conty boundaries have changed a lot since then

Hi, when that Big J was new WD & NX were both Warwickshire Registrations.

yes, if you look on the link posted above, it was registered in dudley, which, in those days probably came under warks

Hi Yella, no at that time Dudley was FD & DH plates,and Dudley was in Worcestershire.

Firstly apologies to 240 Gardner for not thanking him for posting the pic of the Krupp cabbed Atki, so for taking the trouble to do that here are some Atkis/Seddons etc which i hope he and everone else will like
