Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTIONTo my knowledge, Unic never sold lorries in England during the 50/70th . But they sold a lot Unic George Richard ( founder of the factory) as taxis in the beginning of the 1900 th to London city.
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
Join the "piggy back club" ! this was a common sight in the late 60's and into the 70's, particularly Scottish firms such as Sam Anderson. These two Bewick motors are on their way to Ellesmere Port IIRC when we had regular Russian pulp ships in and provided the bales of pulp were loaded straight onto "wheels" and didn't touch the dock the Mill didn't have to pay port fees ! so it was always a desperate panic to at short notice to get as many trailers into Ellesmere to load as much as possible straight onto trailers . The rest went into the Shed and we worked away on it over the following couple of weeks ! Cheers Bewick.
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
My God Dean had the red Cliffe hill Foden for a day.The only red un the rest Tarmac khaki ERF Murphy's sister above
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTIONIndeed Coomsey lad, I was told once it was a one off to celebrate the silver jubilee of '77. It's a superb photo.
And to Dean - I know a chap that is compiling a book on Tarmac's history and would love to include the pic in his book. Full copyright details will be included and Paul will be mentioned in the acknowledgements. Always on the lookout for khaki Tarmac tipper pics.
Know of any ? ![]()
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTIONI think that airflow wagon and drag was driven by Sid bishop from Caerphilly for airflow Blackwood and the catnic scania with that trailor topped would have been something wrong with it as we only topped if there was a problem these pictures of Paul gees are brilliant regards rowly

Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTIONSome period adverts.
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
Hmmm... except Harry Parky's Atki isn't a Borderer! I guess the advert dates from before the time when Frank Whalley was in charge of these things, rather than a Seddon predecessor
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
Think your right B D its in the old Cliffe colour.Dean/Paul pic must be early in her life, when I had her she had wooden greedy boards don't know why though cos don't recall any of the khaki ones having em

Hope you don't mind me putting pic on but thought with Murphy's tippers winning the head count another would be interesting (not my pic)

Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTIONThis thread is an absolute treasure trove of shots from yesteryear and is the equivalent of the "Great Bubbleman's" thread that kept us all eagerly awaiting his next batch of shots from years previously. Anyway well done Paul and Deano ! Regards Dennis.
Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
From memory that advert came out of a commercial motor mag from the 70s. I downloaded it a few years ago ! ![]()

Appreciate the comments Dennis, Paul will be chuffed so many people are enjoying the memories ! Hopefully alot more to come ! ![]() A quick question to you all. Who were the largest fleets back in the 1970s ??? I can remember BRS , Pickford's must have been pretty big and the other company that seemed to be huge was Christian Salverson. Who else ???? I used to know all the different types but without looking it up what type of Leyland is this one ? Tidy ERF Mercedes ERF. The tipper trailer sides seem very low on that ? What would that be for tarmac ???? Leyland or AEC Some Volvo "porn" Tidy ERF ERF tanker. Foden. I think these particular Fodens have so much character about them. Re: PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION
When I saw the pic of the Morris ERF it rang a few bells, Keith, but although I recognised the 8-wheeler, I just couldn't get the lonely memory cell to proceed with any further details. The lorry I remember, the name I also remember but I'm afraid we will have to rely on someone with a better memory to provide more information. It may have helped if the address had been a little clearer- my calor gas-powered PC doesn't do the technology for that! Anyone help?
