PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION

Remember when going scotch (if from the south), or going down to the smoke (if from the north), was long distance?
When Middle East work was readily available?.
When driving a 111 or F89 meant you were truly the king of the road?
Recall those companies long gone, where every day was an adventure?

What ever happened to those drivers you spent hours with.. where did they go? and recollect on those characters in the industry sadly no longer with us.
This forum is for us all to indulge in a little nostalgia and remember with rose coloured glasses how much better it was in the olden days

The ERF with the XTRA box is one of George Davies from Liverpool.

Were Mullard based at the Hatfield area? I used to caravan with an old lad (now deceased) who was an apprentice there before the war and cycled to the factory from Camberley on Sundays and cycled back home on Friday evening, he slept at the factory during the week!

Happy New Year Chris ! Your right London Carriers were owned by Philips but I believe they did a certain amount of third party work for other customers. IIRC Philips had a factory in Burnley. Cheers Dennis.

Happy New Year Dennis ! Some of their trailers had London Carriers signed up as London and Blackburn I'm sure.I think they did a changeover at Newton Aycliffe late 70s/early 80s.

dave docwra wrote:"DEANB" Dont think we have had a Mullard truck on before, anyone know anything ??

I think the Mullard truck is part of the Philips Group, the Dutch electrical company.

Dave.

Thanks for the input Dave.

You could be right "atlas man" i dont know, but hopefully someone else can confirm.

robroy wrote:"DEANB"

Now "robroy" i seem to remember you mentioned that you drove for Ewals ?? so heres a few more.

Cheers for that.Dean.
The trucks I drove pulling for Ewals in their colours were MANs (including the older models) a DAF, and a Scania on an R reg.
I think you put one up a few months ago, an XXL MAN, but it was not one the motors that I drove...but I keep living in hope mate.
The pic with the left hooker Scania Topliner was my era, they belonged to MTC (Mega trucking co) based in Zeebrugge and a depot at Alconbury, my ex guvnor in Colchester broke away from MTC, most drivers were Brit drivers home based.

No more of Ewals Rob as thats all of Pauls. However we may get more from Mark in the future,we will have to wait and see chap.

Buzzer wrote:Hi Dean Mullards had a factory in Southampton on the right as you went into the town and they were part of the Philips group.
As for SFM specialist freight movements they had a yard near Cobden bridge in Southampton and had a contract out of ISR in Fawley refinery doing synthetic rubber to packing units at Membury airfield and at Yatesbury run by Sym's of Calne. I had two trucks on that work back then, two loads up and one back of salt stored at Yatesbury every day and we knew every pothole on that road that's for sure. Buzzer

Thanks for the comments on those two companies Buzzer. Sym's of Calne thats another old company gone unfortunately. Used to like
seeing there motors on the road, anyone know if they were bought out ???

Dave.

They were a famous electronics components manufacturer especially known for their cathode ray tubes used in TV's and wartime radar development. There was also Rediffusion at Chessington which was another big domestic TV manufacturer.

Its amazing the stuff that come out in the comments, cheers "Carryfast" :D

I took my Class 3 on a TM exactly like that one - it could even have been that one - with Wiltshire Transport Training from Devizes. They're still going today.
Although the TM was a nice drive, certainly to learn on, it had the turning circle of an ocean liner :D A lot of the training, and the test, was based in Swindon and the infamous Magic Roundabout. Pretty daunting in a car, let alone a lorry

Great memories triggered by a great pic again, thanks Dean :D

There was an article in one of the heritage mags about a TM tractor unit, that was also registered in Radnorshire like the one in photo above and if my memory serves me correct so was the one I passed my test in with Birmingham Training Group who was part of the R.T.I.T.B group, the local Bedford dealer must have had a good discount going at the time!

Sounds like that Bedford brought back some memories "Piston broke"  The trouble with "The Magic Roundabout" is that most of the
bell ends driving today cant even cope with one roundabout let alone all of those together. (Cant remember how many there are now, havent
been there for year's ! )

Thanks for the comments Pete ! :D

Buzzer

Morning John, Was that not owned by Eric Rivers ? sold them a few F86 tractors.
TM was a chap called Julian. he ended up working for the council, amazing how these things wake up the old brain cells. Harvey
