The haulier were most apologetic that I had been given this run, it was a mistake and should have been give to one of their drivers cause it involved a certain amount of handballing…
“Please don’t cause a fuss Steve and we’ll pay you an extra 2 hours”, “make it 3 and job done”.
Result !! … they obviously know me

My wife was phoned up whilst on a Duty Charge Nurse shift the other evening, a ward needed an extra member of staff PDQ, but needed her OK to get agency staff in, the phone goes again later, we can only get someone who lives X miles away who can not get here unless we can book a taxi for them in each direction, will you OK that ?.
She did, one agency member of staff with a £15 taxi fare X 2 booked on the Hospital account on top of her wages.
As the old saying goes…if ya need em…ya gotta pay for em…nice one all the same…and about time staff were recognised for what and who they are.
