So I dropped a load of car storage ramps to a place yesterday and was having a chat with the gaffer there and how showed me around some very very nice motors indeed.
He was asking me about my job, stuff I’d done etc, have I done continental and so on. Then he slips me a card and says if I’d like a job to call him. Reckons he’s paying top line of about £900 a week so I was immediately thinking it’s a load of tosh.
Anyone have any experience of covered expensive car transport?
It’s a specialist job, having a very good interest in cars and mechanical knowledge help, especially if delivering old bangers,.
Check weather that £900 is per week + nights out, you will go to interesting places, race circuits, shows etc, it’s not just driving, and when Mr snotty git wants his lambo in the south of France, yesterday, well off you jolly well go, and you meet some nice laydee too.
I did ask that he said he used to hire seasonal but he can’t guarantee driver availability so now he employs full time with a guaranteed five days a week even if work is slack
I’ve always wanted to do a car transporter job but don’t like the idea of strapping cars down then playing some jenga like game with the ramps to get them into position.
That being said if someone wants to convince me it’s an easy job I’m open to changing my mind.
Started in that game in the late 90’s and there was nothing like the trucks and kit there is now, the job is a piece of ■■■■ in comparison.
Where were you
Bury st Edmunds,Northampton??

You need an actual contract, or you risk it indeed being a load of old tosh, like them guys you see on motorway slip roads, waving their red delivery plates up at you…
“£25ph they promised me!”
But only whilst driving the delivered vehicle, which is about 4 hours out of the 12-15 hours I’ve been working today. That’s £100 for a 12-15 hour shift then. Not even minimum wage, when you work it out as an actual paid hourly rate…
You’ve got to hitch hike home as well of course, also unpaid hours. You’ll probably be working 150 hours a week just to pay the bloody mortgage by the time you’re done.

Only been doing it about 9 months and still have loads to learn, but I’m getting there and now the weather is beginning to pick up and clocks are changing I think I’m getting on top of it now. Had a 9 car load of Ford Kuga suvs the other day and with some help (I’d have never done it on my own) got them all on. 16 foot the length of the truck with no room to spare. It looked like a piece art.
If you’ve got a brain and you aren’t a quitter then you can do this job, but it’s not easy by any means and you earn the money. Personally I like the challenge. I don’t want to settle down in a comfy job.
The covered transport was interesting, it’s not all high end stuff though. I did Maserati, Ferraro, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Land Rover, Jaguar and Vauxhall’s. Also did a lot of used stuff to auctions and recovering breakdowns. I even carried Motorcycles
