Lawrence Dunbar:
I agree with Kev Dennis that is a real classic photo of a classis wagon, & Of course a classic haulage mans fleet, One of the best Ive seen, Regards Larry.
Aye Larry,it dosen’t really matter who took the shot,as it will be around long after we’ve gone eh! but it has been captured for all time.Having said that though, that is the standard we strived to to achieve always,it wasn’t just got ready for the photo shoot Just enjoyed a nice meal of Mussels in garlic sauce and some slices of french bread,PLUS a couple of nice bottles of Chilean Chardonay, great, Cheers Dennis.
Dennis my man you live life to the full I must say, But I do also, In fact we deserve it wouldn’t you say, We worked bloody hard for everything that we got, So now we are enjoying the years that we have got left, Ive just had some nice live oysters with a dash of lemon juice washed down with a very nice Shiraz, & Im ready for anything, Even doing a Night Trunk tomorrow night Eh , Silly old me Eh, Regards Larry.

You are just one “Star man” Larry and if you are doing a trunk tomorrow night, well I’m sure the run will be completed entirely satisfactorily,no ringing in with any problems eh! back in the yard, filled up up and ready for the day man eh! Cheers Dennis.PS “Oysters” ye are living up on the hog a bit
Bewick:
We only had one driver who was obsessed with having Zenetti mirrors on both his Mastiff and then the Atky which he fitted at his own expense He didn’t have them on the third new motor he got,an ERF “A” Series as by this time the manufactures were fitting much better, larger mirrors to the motors.I’m not just sure what he did with them as I can’t recall seeing them fitted to his VW Beetle Cheers Bewick.
Dennis, that has to be one of the best pics ever presented on this or any other thread on TNUK, that Atki takes me back to 1972 when I was king of the road (IMO) . Regards Kev.
Ps we had those mirrors on all the 1418’s at Waughs, they were a great asset although we had a window in the back of the cab they did help in a tight spot.
Thanks for the kind coment “kev” and without blowing my own trumpet it is,quite innocently,a class Atky shot but it is also coupled to an immaculately sheeted and roped load of paper, the whole shot is from a previous era that is long gone and fast been forgotten about eh! Cheers Dennis.
I agree a classic picture, just one fault, who built the wall? You should have done a return load from the Peak District with a load of proper limestone coping stones to finish it off! Only joking, keep up with the very interesting pictures Dennis.
If anyone restoring a classic lorry would like a zenati mirror tnuk member tow truck had some, don’t pm him as I don’t know that he can reply ,if your interested contact me ,I will see him today to check he still has them.
These were the best mirrors of the day, obviously until the Volvo mirrors.
When I worked at United carriers they removed all the Bedford mirrors and fitted Spafax unbreakable ones, it must have been something to do with the drivers, not me I may add, the first mirror I broke was in 1980 on a friends lorry. I have never got over it

I remember a mirror with 3 different ‘lenses’ that was very good when you got used to it.It also died a death in the '70s.
Zanatti,or a copy-I don’t know.Anyway,re: spafax unbreakeable mirrors,a large concern I worked for were on the verge
of doing a deal for these, when the rep totally blew it by offering a good price on replaceable mirror inserts.
The only motor I ever drove with Zanettis on was a Bedford TK 7.5 tonner with a Harvey Frost crane on that I borrowed sometimes to move our old motors about. The owner thought that fitting the largest Zanettis would be better to keep an eye when towing. Trouble was, big heavy mirror head on the early TK single arms, 220 4 cylinder diesel, even with the optional string attachment, they jumped about so much, you had to reach out and hold to see anything. Good old Wingards, still a few lying about in my garage, 7 x 5 and 10 x 6. You couldn’t see much in them, being flat glass, but they were cheap and easy to replace, on the market work we used to carry a dozen box of spare glasses in the motor. and often had to use them!
