Youtubers on the M1

Had an incident North-bound on the M1 near Birmingham a week ago (it was about 10am just in case it’s this guy’s regular route) with a van driver in front of me who slowed down to 45mph before I ran out of patience and pulled out to overtake him. As I went past, he was very theatrically wiping his mirror and then door window with a cloth. By the time I judged my trailer was clear of him, I put the indicator on to return to lane 1 and checked the nearside mirror. He was sitting at the back wheel of my trailer matching my speed. I slowed down, he slowed down. I sped up and he sped up. For a good couple of minutes he sat there and I’m certain he was looking for dashcam footage of a near miss with a lorry. YouTube is full of this kind of stuff - making HGV drivers look bad. In the end, I hit the brakes so that he undertook me and then I moved into lane 1 behind him and stayed there. Again he slowed, but this time I stayed well back and waited. Eventually he took off.
Watch out for this idiot and other idiots like him trying to create dramas just so they can see their names on the telly.

Hiya are you sure M1 ■■?

Only people who watch these are the same childish idiots who sit in their bedrooms and get off on it, whereas the rest of the world just keeps on ignoring them. Its usually the ones using a phone to film it too.

Or they were trying cash for crash.

Must admit, never heard of M1 being close to Birmingham.

Where 42 meets M1 or thereabouts…

Tell you what. I’ll leave you chaps to discuss the meaning/definition of “close to” or “near”, while I carry on watching Star Trek. Keep an eye out for nutty YouTubers. That was the point of the post.

I remember reading somewhere where the Old Bill were asking for footage to be sent to them…typical ■■■■ UK coppers easy policing methods. :unamused:
So not only are they not clamping down on these d/heads creating incidents out of nothing, they’re actually encouraging the ■■■■ s. :unamused:

Humberside force have just started doing this. Most of the videos I see on youtube or facebook the camera car has forced the situation by not letting someone make a ■■■■ up. In my opinion, that’s just as bad as whatever it is they’re filming.

Hopefully, dumberside police will take that into account.

They sure as hell won’t, if they manage to get a conviction on say…25 to 40% it’s easier than them doing any actual Policing, it’s just a similar method to using cameras.
You know the score today, anything for the easiest and revenue before substance.

Should have swiped him off the road give him some proper footage

That is a disgraceful thing to say from a professional driver. :unamused:

What you should have said was force him off the road from behind, then he would have had NO footage. :bulb: :sunglasses:

Having seen some the UK dash cam stuff on you tube I pity the poor bugger who has to look through hours of footage of dashcam users getting offended because a car has cut them up on a roundabout even though it cleared the roundabout before they got there, they forced off a country lane by a tractor, when they came round a blind bend like some Finnish rally driver only to see the tractor in front of them, unusual sight on a rural road and many other weird and wonderful claims of bad driving, when the worst driving was by the person with the dashcam intent on getting content for you tube.

Wasn’t an old shoddy looking yellow van was it?

A quick look at youtube and youll see videos entitled “Maniac on the A34” or “Almost killed by idiot in blue van” and if you watch it you will see the square root of nothing. Now all these clips will get sent to the police and for every time there is an incident that needs followed up there will be hours and hours of non events by “perfect” drivers who feel slighted at being cut up or pulled out on. I reckon the cops will regret opening that door

I’ve watched a couple of these dash cam warrior videos on you tube and I reckon I can predict what’s going to happen in 99% of them if not from the start at least in time to avoid all the emergency braking and horn blowing
