You obviously give that too your company when you start, but are they allowed too give it too other employees
If all the phone numbers of the employees were kept in a book, and a employee went through this book, and then rang you up.
Is this a breach of confidencialiy ta
Did you actually tell said company specifically not to give your number out to other employees ?
Is it a personal phone or one supplied and paid for by the company?
If it’s a company phone then yes - if it’s a personal one the company have a duty to ensure personal information is kept private unless there is a legitimate reason someone needs it.
TBH I don’t give employers my home number, only ever my mobile. That way I can turn it off when I want.
I work nights and had a night off, I was woken early hours by one of our customers saying “you can get on the bay now” I just answered “yeah ok I’ll just be a minute” then switched my phone off and went back to sleep.

we have to put a phone number on our signing in sheet every week and on the front page. It accessible to everyone so i give them my office mobile which i turn off as and when i want. Only important people get my personal number

My thoughts as well, you’ve made your bed,so zb lie in it
I do find it quite bizarre that the people who get the most touchy about their personal numbers being given out also seem to be the very same people who practically live on Facebook or Twitter.

Facebook/Twitter can be turned off when you don’t want to use it. Also, this is in relation to colleagues calling you where FB/Twit are friends, family and people you want to share your own time with.
If you’ve just finished a 10 hour day the last thing you want is the likes of Dozy calling you to ■■■■■ about the fact he’s been asked to empty the bins in order to go home early.
Data protection act.
They are not allowed to give out your number unless you say they can.
My Phone and i sleep in different Rooms.

Does that not depend on HOW they store the data?
DPA only applies to data on a computer. If it’s in a book, there is little, if any, protection.
No. If the book contains personal information then it should be in a locked draw/cupboard where it is only accessable (how do you spell that bloody word) to authorised persons.
All information about the DPA can be accessed through the Information Commissioners Office if you don’t believe me. I’m an office walla at the moment and this is the kind of crap I come into contact with everyday.
Did you know that CCTV signs have to be of a certain size and have the telephone number of the company running it on them. And you can ask for a copy of all recordings that you are in. The company can charge you £10 to produce it an have 28 days to do so…
You don’t want to know what you have to do if you take credit cards!!

DPA applies to absolutely any information in any format. When you put in a request under the DPA to a company they have to give you copies of everything, even stuff scrawled on a PostIt.
