Your first real truck?

Just found a pic of my first real truck. Yes, as you will have guessed, this is the Hume Highway between Melbourne and Sydney, sometime in the late 70’s. And this shot is even more rare, in that the truck is pulling a fridge. More normally it was a flat trailer with a tarped load!

Prizes for working out the difference between this Volvo and the ones that you still occasionally see around even now in the UK.

Its a G series rather than F with the front axle set forward

Beat me to it
Last time I see one of those was at Hays Storage in Dagenham on shunting duties about 14 years ago

Well done the pair of you. I thought it might have been harder… but no! Some serious truck nuts here obviously.

is she running badly out of line ? :open_mouth:

Yeah, not sure why it’s in the middle of the road, but I’m guessing it’s about to overtake, or traveling fast enough not to use the overtaking lane.

Looks like its out of line , :unamused:

Could be the 2 trailer axles out of line and making trailer run scew whiff ,
common fault with those old adjustable tied axles.

Dont see many 88s + 89s now … nice old trucks

It may look like that, but those trailers were always very sweet to pull. I never towed one that was out of line, or heard anyone else complain about them. And Vaughans fitters were very good about sorting the mechanical stuff out.

I reckon the truck is just moving out from the overtaking lane and that makes it look as if it’s out of true.
