Young driver needing experience

Hi guys ive recently left the Army and was lucky enough to get my HGV licenses, I’m relatively in experienced except for driving military vehicles. I was just wondering if you could help me on any places who give chances to younger in experienced drivers in the Manchester area as I really want to start working again.

many thanks for your help.

Would help if we knew where you are/will be based

I live in Bolton so either Manchester/preston/wigan would be a good area

Think that may be a strong possibility :unamused:

Out of my area but get a CV put together first if you haven’t already, I’m sure there are plenty on here who will be along shortly to make suggestions many helpful, others less so.

EFS in Burnley will give you a shot. They gave me a shot when I got out. He likes ex military.

Fagan & whalley also are willing to give new drivers a chance. Based at padiham near Burnley.

Wellocks of Nelson are after all classes of driver at minute.

Pretend to be Polish or Romanian and you will be guaranteed a job
Seriously though they are crying out for drivers everywhere at the moment most taking no experience, especially ex military… my advice retrain and do a job that gives you a live outside of it

I know Alpha LSG will snap you up in a heart beat. There busy period is coming up with summer, downside, it’s only 6-8 months work, but it will be class 2 experience for you. This is down at the airport. They recently started advertising on the job center website for this years period

maybe this would help

Dont worry about the in experience mate but be open about it,
When i got out i went for an interview and explained that i had my class 1 ect but in the army the vehicles rarely moved and that i had little experience, they took me on and said if i ever needed advice or help then just ask.
The other lads that work there have been brilliant with me and always helping out with little things, if they see me doing something where there is an easier way or another method they will show me.

Youll soon realise that the experience you have from the army is pretty much zero experience, loads in the army are typically generators, ammo boxes, landys , forks, tents or cages which are all very easy to lash down. in civvy street youll find some loads where youl think wtf am i supposed to do here, its a massive learning curve.

What ever you do , dont lie to them and tell them you can do this and that because you will soon get found out. youll get alot more respect if your honest with them, before you know it youll have experience and be comfortable with your new job. so far ive maxed my driving hours most days and had to use the 10 hour driving time twice, when im not driving im waiting for loads to be crained on and then its time strapping an akward load down.

When lads come speaking to you reccomending other ways dont loose your temper with them, they are not telling you how to do your job or interfeering, they are giving you valuable advice and trying to help.

Also get your head around driving hours and working time directive, as nobody in the army seemed to know anything about driving hours for the 10 years that i was in, the seniors all thought they could work you all day and you only need 8 hours rest and then your good to go again. and been expemt tacho and just logging driving time on a peice of paper ment that driving time would be made up 90% of the time anyway.

search on indeed on google, the page is a job search site put your post code in then put hgv , lgv ,tippers, am, pm, multidrop what ever you are looking for really and there will be loads of jobs in your area popping up, search through some ads say ideal for people wishing to gain experience. ( pay might not be good but the hours will make up , and youll gain experience to move onto a better paid job alot more prepared later on. )

I’m always willing to give a young inexperienced driver a position.

How very rude…

Although openings get filled very quickly at my company I have been informed a vacancy has become available due to forced retirement of one of our more tantric employees. Back door Brian will be sadly missed.

Anyway a rare opportunity has arisen at Dippers International Logistical Distribution Organisation for the right candidate.

Remuneration is £10 per hour for a contracted 50 hour week with overtime at £13.33 (or time and a turd if you prefer).

Knowledge of drivers hours laws, load security, skeletal trailers, ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ would be an advantage but not essential as on the job training will be given.

The succesfull candidate can expect to receive an excellent benefit package including private health care (very discreet BUPA clinic close by), accident cover both on the job and if experimenting at home.

A four hour paid induction and assesment ride will be offered to shortlisted applicants where ones skills both behind the wheel and behind the glory hole will be tested.

Please send photos (from all angles, especially that special place that always looks like somebody elses) and cv’s to: diveat9nomufftoruff@■■■■■.org

Previous applicants need not apply.
