You learn something new every day

I work 6 on 4 off, so am never near to the max on my fortnightly driving, however I always note daily driving in my diary for my own peace of mind,

Imagine my surprise when killing time today and I discovered that the digi tacho allows you to see your fortnightly driving hours! All my scribbling and mental arithmetic has been in vain.

Has anyone else been doing something one way for years and then stumbled upon a stupidly easy, better way of doing it?

No, but dozens of people here do a printout to see what they have done in the day, week or fortnight, when you can simply scroll through the menu and read it off, if anyone is a bit ■■■■ about keeping records, they can still write the displayed info down

i know how to get the info from the tacho but i still keep written daily records of start, stop. drive and work times and milage its just easier for doing my time sheet

i don’t use digi cards, but i have heard manuy horror stories about them

a friend of mine, works for a large container haulier, had a brand new scania topline with a Stoneridge unit fitted in it, he used to keep written records of all driving, working, rest and duty time, one friday, he parked the truck in the yard and did a printout, it never moved all weekend, but when he came to it on the monday morning, his driving time had increased by 2 hours :open_mouth:

the mileage on the truck was the same, nobody had been anywhere near it, and he had not done any other driving over the weekend for anyone else

Because “this friend” had not let the VU calculate the calculations before pressing print, the truck had not done 2 hours more, just that the printout had not added the last movements.

I found that out the other day! Didn’t realise for 3 years! Lol!

he had been parked up for 15 mins before he did the printout

Can see what you’re getting at but I think (sadly) you’d be better off as you were; don’t trust what the thing says.

Must admit I’ve had a few things happening on a digi tacho that I can’t explain, so I’m sticking to my daily work journal where I note everything down, even where I go, what unit reg and what trailer. It can sometimes be useful to b able to go back and check records of where I was on a certain day etc.

Interesting shift pattern! What sort of work are you doing if you don’t mind me asking?

What i learnt from digi’s is in our job of changing over waste food containers is that if during changes ie ( roll on roll off ) your never stationary for more than 3 minutes, and sometimes it can take about 15min to change, that was always calculated as continuous driving. So now i always make sure that at sometime or other when undoing/doing up clamps or other bits i let the tacho run to 3mins, which then classes it as work and saves me about 6 to 7 mins a change. Do 4 or 5 of those a day sometimes, an it soon mounts up. :grimacing:

Sorry for delay, was on days off and I avoid computers if possible when off.

I’m on fridges for Dingle Dangle. When I started they asked me what shift pattern I wanted to do, Ichose that one 'cos I race bikes during the summer so need plenty of time off. It’s not unusual at our place for guys to pick strange shift patterns TBH.
