calsdad:
I got caught in the car about a year ago. Fri night after 65 hours doing multidrop at 3663. Wasn’t sure of my name never mind being able to confirm i was doing 36 in a 30.
5 truckers on my course out of 22. One of the blokes in charge identified the truckers all sat together (sharing rdc tales of woe) and promptly moved us to other tables as he believed we would be disruptive together…
Course was scary, what the car drivers were unaware of was verging on unbelievable. Seeing them everyday you wonder. But this was worse, one woman shouldn’t be allowed to walk in public never mind drive on the road. Guy from Africa (Nigeria??) who genuinely (no language barrier) didn’t know the difference between a stop and giveway sign ffs.
Truckers knew all speed limits, identified all dangers before they developed. A credit to our proffession really … if it wasn’t for the fact they got caught breaking the law…
I could play Devil’s Advocate here and point out the glaring contradictions but I won’t…
As bufure T justice would say in smokey and the bandit play devils advocate you can think about it but don’t do it lol
Don’t need to. I drive for a company that doesn’t expect it and doesn’t schedule runs that require it.
Have done in my car but unlike burnley-si I’m observant enough, engage my brain sufficiently enough and don’t go fast enough over that I’d get caught - 70 in a 60 on my speedo is about 63-64MPH so unlikely to get a tug.
If you get caught its because you’re not paying attention to what is going on around you, not thinking about what you’re doing when you’re driving or really taking the mick with how fast you’re going. Speed cameras aren’t hard to avoid and on roads you know you usually are aware of where the sneaky ones are - one that immediately comes to mind that many have probably passed on here is the one in that 50 limit dual carriageway past Ross on Wye in that little village on a hill where the cafe is.
I’ve done over 2 million miles without any points for speeding. Does that mean I don’t speed? No.
I deliberately speeded (is that a word?) in a 7.5 tonner back in the 80s and got the full 12 points
Pleaded in court and kept licence …just
We all passed the relevant tests and proved that we can drive without speeding
In regards to going over the speed limit … there is speeding and there is SPEEDING … doing 32 in a 30 is speeding but there is a difference in noticing it and putting it right immediately to ignoring it and continuing on doing it
The worst drivers are the ones who say they did not notice they were over the limit because they are not only over the limit but have observation/concentration issues as well
was doing 57mph on the m42 just before the toll road when the gantry was showing 50mph at 11.30pm on a wednesday night for no reason what so ever.
rob dogs
You were seriously unlucky. I’ve never been flashed by a gantry camera in car or lorry, not even doing 59mph when the gantries have shown 20mph let alone 40mph. You see them flash occasionally. At first I thought it was only if you were really taking the mick like 100mph+, but seems to be random e.g. flash one in every 1000 motorist and everyone slows down.
Bad luck, and speaking from experience I recommend taking the points instead of the awareness course. Would have had more fun rubbing my nuts with a cheese grater.
I was going down the road one night and the limit went from 50 to 40 and the gantry cameras flashed about 4 or 5 vehicles in quick succession. Was like Blackpool illuminations
WE are human beings not computers we all make mistakes maybe you missed that sign but still slowed when you realized can happen to any of us but £100 or £80 for the course just another legalised scam for making money from the motorist, the bloke that completely ignores the limits knowing hes doing it seems to get away. I do my best to stick to the limits even my new car displays the speed limit in front of me, but driving another car just didnt slow down exactly at the sign but within a few yards had done in the country not exactly a safety problem and bang. Ive probably driven millions of miles over the last 40 years so its a bit of an insult. I think things need a good look at as regards are roads. I can honestly say I think peoples attitudes to driving have got worse over the years and i don’t see it getting any better. As for these so called safety or speed cameras no discretion whats so ever now that cant be right. The day Im perfect will be when Im six foot under and even then I will probably get done for loitering.

Good man
there’s a few drivers in the states hat do more than that DAILY
Not only is it 80 odd quid, I noticed that the 3 calls I made to an 0845 number to arrange and pay for it cost me nearly another tenner!!! Robbing ■■■■■■■■
Got nicked last year just before Christmas and did the course near Huntingdon. Didn’t learn a thing, although some on the course clearly needed to be there, and felt that a lot of what was said was just plain wrong.
For some reason we got onto the subject of emergency vehicles with blues and sirens on. Did you know you’re not supposed to get out of their way? We’re not ‘trained’ to react to them apparently. So we’re supposed to just sit there in a queue and let the sit behind us are we?

Actually we are NOT required to get out of their way. They are trained to go around us.
I will concede that most of us will make the effort to make way for them, but with problems such as numpties reacting like a rabbit in headlights once they see blue lights the advice for Joe Public is now to carry on as normal and let the blue lighters worry about getting around us.
im off onto one of these in december. 75 in a 70 d/c but i was in my van so i was supposed to be going 60. i was taking the ■■■■ a bit i think… i’d lost a good 15mph before the camera van got me and they can get you almost before you can see them so my observation couldnt have been that bad…

There were a few examples like that.
did you not know that ■■ that’s always been the case .
Yep, all emergency vehicles will now turn off sirens if theres a queue at a set of red traffic lights as they don’t want people jumping the lights and causing an accident.
