you couldnt make it up

Immigration minister Mark Harper resigns from the government after it emerges his cleaner did not have permission to work in the UK.

on BBC website but aint got a clue how to post link

Yes,but he didn’t know she was an illegal!!! What was his job again■■?

I cannot find the words to express my contempt for these shallow, self-serving, lying, arrogant, dishonest, two faced, insincere, untrustworthy tossers - so I won`t even try.

You would have thought he’d double or even treble check everything was legal and above board.

Perhaps I’m misreading something here - but it would appear that he did check her immigration status at the outset, and found things appeared to be in order. Only some years later did he re-check and found that all was not in order. Having done so, and realising it could prove embarrassing to his bosses, he “hands in his keys” and reverts to a subordinate role. Politicians with lower standards would doubtless have denied all knowledge/blamed someone else/hung on for grim death/hoped for the best. Fair play to the bloke, I reckon.

Watch what they do, not what they say.

try telling that to immigration
yes sir, I certainly did all the checks but I don’t have the paperwork to prove it
worked for him 7 yrs but he has mislaid the relevant paperwork.
and he is immigration minister  and she is a illegal immigrant
are you an MP ray
he should be treated like anyone else who employs illegal immigrants and dragged through the courts

That’s a bit like me saying “I did once have an Operator’s Licence, but several years later I checked and found that I hadn’t had one for ages”.

That excuse wouldn’t wash for me, and it doesn’t wash for him. A wealthy man employed an illegal immigrant because she was a few pounds cheaper an hour than a native girl who would have been glad of the work.

Again, watch what they do, not what they say.

Part of Camerons sympathetic response : ...........hoped to see him return to the front benches before too long. Let the dust settle, and youll be back in the ministerial club in two shakes. No surprise there, then?
