Sat in our yard on break earlier today and a driver that had loaded at our place came over and said to me “my office have provided me with a route and i was told not to deviate from it, I’ve got a double deck trailer and any damage is on the me if i don’t stick to the pre advised route” so i looked at the paperwork and they had him going thru a 7.5t weight limit, i pointed him in the right direction and even gave him 3 other options avoiding the weight limit cos thats the kind of guy i am [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]
This amazed me as it was a big company that he worked for (with alot of DD trailers) and i can’t believe he was the only driver given this duff info, but i suppose it would explain alot of these bridge strikes…[emoji2369][emoji2369]

Makes me laugh the whole “if you do anything differently it’s on you” as if it wasn’t already.
If it was me. Personally I’d follow the route given.
Then once I approach a weight limit/low bridge.
Is ring the office. And ask them for an alternative route
After all he’s following orders from a route planner.there job as title says is to plan a route.
So obviously if he sends you an unsuitable route he hasn’t done his job properly and should be sacked

We all need to use their rules against them and enjoy doing so…

I agree in principle.
Certainly, no one will give credit for initiative. For myself, however, I would rather get the work done, so I’d find a suitable route to the drop, and notify the office that I’d deviated from the approved.route, with my reason, at debrief. Job done, point made.

We have to make a stand against these people.
Some talk down to us. Call us in the office for a "chat’ for some silly minor thing.
We’re always accountable. Yet there not.
If we take a stand and follow orders then we can say not my problem I was told to go this way can’t divert so I did as was told…
Let them be called in for a "chat’.
Only same as when your given a book in slot and you know you won’t make it. You ways get the blame if late.
Where as the planner who thinks you can get Manchester to magna park in 2 hours . Doesn’t get a mark on his record.

and assuming you take the lid off the trailer on your own route in the process,??i
f you work for plobber pointy shoe risk assessment companies, then your paid from the neck down.hence you should use that to your advantage act accordingly and show no initiative whatsoever .
The office most likely used HGV satnav to plan the route. Unfortunately as there’s no central database of weight limits there are many that these HGV navs are unaware exist. If anything them giving the driver that route is a good advert as to why a HGV satnav isn’t worth paying money for.
