You can have nothing!

Finished up on Friday with a company I was working with for the last few months and went in this morning to clean out the last few of my things out the lorry. I took everything that I considered worth anything out on Friday but when I got In this morning the first thing I notice was the fuel cap off one of the tanks missing and a plastic bag was taped on instead!
Next thing I noticed was my pair of steel toe boots that I had been wearing for the last couple of months was gone too!
Then a steering wheel knob that would have taken at least a vice grips to take off was gone, and last but not least a wide angle lens (fresnel lens) that was on the passenger window.
What was left was a small brush I used for sweeping out the cab and my kettle for the camping gas stove.
Now the keys were left outside the lorry as requested by the boss but it was parked in a secure compound with round the clock security at the gate which leads me to believe that it was a driver from the same company that took the stuff, and I’m just left wondering why would someone on a decent wage want a second hand pair of work boots! and why would a so called colleague that I would have talked to on numerous occasions decide to just help themselves to anything they could find in my lorry just because I was leaving.
It’s the lowest of low in my opinion and it just shows you can never leave anything no matter how insignificant you may think it is, not securely locked away even when it’s people you think you know.
And I’m sure if they needed a fuel cap the mechanic would have been able to get one but as I said lowest of the low :unamused:

lesson learnt … finished Friday everything out on Friday …

You said that you finished up on Friday. Perhaps they thought you didn’t want the stuff that you left behind and didn’t think you were coming back?

As everyone else said, learn by this situation… if you finish up clear out the truck of everything…and as far as collegues / work mates involved, they don’t exist
I bet the minute they knew you was going one or two of them was over that truck with a fine tooth comb, even if it washing of value they just did it to ■■■■ :open_mouth: you off

Don’t worry move on

if your boss is upset u leaving dont be suprised if your last pay is minus cost of fuel cap oldest trick in book

If the steering wheel knob caused serious damage to the steering wheel as they tend to, the fuel cap could be the least of your worries.

If I ever had to dismiss a driver it was always take all your “stuff” now .Because you aint coming back around my trucks again…

Yes my thoughts exactly.

Maybe so but it’s not like I left the door wide open, it was locked and the keys hidden on the outside of the cab so whoever it was made a considerable effort to get into it. They had no buisness going near it in the first place.

You could be right, I’m more annoyed at the slyness of it than the stuff being taken so if it was done to ■■■■ me off they’ve succeeded.

Full weeks wages went into the bank Friday evening as per usual and I’d expect him or any boss to at least mention it to me first.

Steering wheel was fine apart from the imprint of where the knob was clamped on but wasn’t cut or damaged in anyway.

I wasn’t dismissed, I left and on good terms with the boss aswell.

They had no buisness going near it in the first place.

They had more right than you as you’re not an employee. They still are.

Whatever you think yourself, I said “buisness” and you somehow managed to change that to “right” and for your info my ex employer knew I was going back over on Monday because he rang me on sat morning to ask had I anything to take out and when I said I had some things to get he told me to go over Monday morning and get them. So I did have every right to go near it. So next time you want to make yourself feel smart at least make sure you know the full facts of the story and not just what you can gather.

And just incase you were in any doubt, every driver in that company has their own dedicated unit so there is no reason to go near anyone else’s.

You know the old saying,if its not nailed down somebody will nick it, :frowning:

It’s sad but true.

OP, drivers are the worst thieves of all, sad but true.

Strewth. Don’t agree with a lot of what’s been said. Details details details as to whether you’re still an employee. They shouldn’t have stolen it. End of discussion. End of. No arguing the rights and wrongs. I wouldn’t do it, you wouldn’t do it. They did it. Scummers.

Sorry I didn’t mean that they had any right or excuse to steal something that belongs to someone else. You didn’t explain you had arranged to collect it on Monday. I was only making the observation that as you were no longer an employee and they were they would have had more business being in and around a truck that belongs to someone they work for.

That’s ok, I thought you were having a go and I was very surprised because going by your other posts your usually quite sensible. But as I said they all drive their own units and that one has only been used by me since the day I started. I wouldn’t mind if someone had been driving it but it wasn’t moved since I parked it up Friday evening and the place is closed at weekends so it was obviously someone who landed back after I left and decided to go over and fleece the lorry before they went home.

If I was you I’d try and find out the culprit and go around and pay him a little visit  thieving scum.

Take heart,if you think its bad losing your boots this way I had a new pair of trousers go walk about.Drove a coach load of bowlers to an away game I got parked up and changed into cycling gear and away I went for a few hours. When I got back discovered that some scum bag had been in and nicked my trousers and a soundbar that was going back to Aldi because it didnt work.I had to check with the bowlers to see that they had no stuff on the coach or I would have had to involve the police. What is the world coming to?
