This subject i’m sure has been stretched to the limit on here before but who is the prat!
The other night joining the M4 at J19 the M32 heading East(London bound) 2 Daf’s-not gonna mention the firms but two different fleets, past me at the end of the slip road, they were also both joining the M4. The rear Daf went straight into lane 2 to pass the first Daf, got alongside but by then both had reached their limits & off they both went-side by side torwards London. By the time they reached the big climb at J18 they were still neck & neck, no sign of either of em giving way & off they continued up the hill & still they stayed alongside each other at the top. By this time a rather irate(i would imagine) coach driver had caught em both up & was stuck in lane 2 whilst these prats continued their dual! It finally finished at Leigh Delamere services, i presume Mr Daf in lane 1 finally gave in & let the other prat in.
Now we can all argue that the bloke in lane 1 should have “let off” a lot earlier to let the other knob in but should he have stayed out for so long when he knew he couldn’t get pass. I aint even worked out how far they travelled alongside each other but J19 to Leigh Delamere is some distance.
I’m not blaming speed limiters either it’s down to the drivers!
Both ■■■■■.
Lane 1 for not backing off
Lane 2 for starting an overtake before he knew lane 1’s top speed
Is that a distance of about 20 miles ?
I doubt you are far wrong there! I know it was late at night & there wasn’t much traffic about but still one of em must have just enough brain cells on em to finish it earlier than 20 odd miles. It’s a shame but it shows just how many prats drive trucks nowdays. Sad but very true.
It’s these sort of antics that will eventually force the UK to adopt the continental no HGV overtaking between certain hours over vast swathes of the road networks.
Probly youngteam.
One click down on either cruise control and the problem is solved.
Orange daf by any chance?
Theres no excuse for that, but i have encounterd in the past, similar happenings, where i have moved over to let someone out of the slip road, only for him to keep accelerating, expecting me to be the one to slow down, so i kept to the middle lane, to the annoyance of others, hoping that the nearside lane, would force him to slow down, due to slower moving traffic, i had to concede in the end, out of courtesy for others, who gave me the fingers ( rightly ) for holding them up, whereas courtesy should have come from him in the first place.

Enough said.

Not sure that would make much difference, TBH. I reckon roughly 50% of the times I travel the A14 between Kettering and the M1, some clown in an artic will pull out and start an overtake in the 7.5 lane 2 exclusion zone.

That would be me. If I’m empty travelling at 56 and there is no cars in lane 2 there is no way I’m going to sit behind a 230bhp fully loaded rigid doing 25mph, I’ll be out and around him within 5 seconds thus relieving congestion behind me.
As soon as the limit ends then all those long line of trucks that are queued up behind each other will all be coming out anyway and re placing themselves so all the master minds of our roads have done is just pro long congestion on the flats even more rather than just letting us sort our selves out quicker on the hills. Geniuses.
The most vast differences in speed between 2 trucks is on a hill.
Same story on A42(M)

I dont get the leaving people out in the middle lane thing for ages stunt, if one of the trucks had a front tyre blow out you could both be in alot of trouble and when your laying in IC i bet you’d have wished you just let off for a few seconds.
Seen it, and been behind it loads of times. Once on the A14 going East I sat in the inside lane with my limiter on 54 (I can do 56) from J1 to J6 at Kettering while two guys sparred backwards & forwards whilst virtually parallel. I think that’s about 18 miles?
Not sure but i believe it is true in Germany there is a 45 second rule for trucks overtaking if of course spotted by the police at the time!
I’ve allways found in the past that its the(been there, done that, got the t-shirt) brigade or the 30 drops a day 7 and half tonne joy riders that don’t want to let you back in after you start to overtake. I’ve had to ease off and pull back in a few times to let traffic through especially on the likes of the A42/A1/A14 etc. it’s not hard to ease off the cruise control a couple of clicks and allow traffic to flow.
Do you think it is the “my knob is bigger than your knob” syndrome! Just to prove that their motor is in fact just as fast if not better than the 1 overtaking them
Oh you mean the," both our xfs are 410 but mines actually chipped to 700 and although we are side by side now, you wait for a hill because you are gonna start going backwards" syndrome? We call that ■■■■■ talk
