What do you recommend seeing and
doing in york. My brother wants to go
to the railway museum and we thought
we would make a day of it seeing york.
Someone told me to park somewhere
and use the park and ride any info on this
ie prices ect.
The park and ride is well signposted from pretty much all the way round the ring road (the A64 to the south/east and A1237 to the north and west). No idea of the cost though, never used it myself but it is supposed to be very good.
The NRM is very good, and it’s worth having a walk round the walls too (especially as it doesn’t cost owt). Not sure what else is good to be honest.
Paul
you did google first, didn’t you?
Park and Ride is definitely the way to go. Parking in the city will cost you an arm and a leg.
National Railway Museum is free and is a great place.
The Minster, on the other hand, charges admission!!!
The Castle Museum is worth a look, if that sort of thing floats your boat.
A walk around the city walls (free) and down The Shambles and Stonegate is a must for a first time visitor.
Lots of street performers at the weekend and loads of cracking pubs.
Is the Viking museum still there - thats supposed to be quite good ■■
Oh, yeah! Forgot that. But don’t go in the school holidays!!! You’ll queue down the street!!
Also The Yorkshire Wheel, in the grounds of the railway museum, for a great view of the city and surrounding area on a clear day.
theres loads to do in York, you are better off parking at the York designer outlet and getting the bus from there, its free parking.
There are loads of little musuems and shops to look in, theres LIttle Stonegate which has loads of little shops in and there is also Cliffords tower which is good.
The best thing to do is to go to Tourist information nr Exibition Square and they will tell you the best places, the leaflets in there also have loads of offers on!
Coney Street is the main shopping street and is worth a look, theres also the air musuem at Elvington.
If you are staying the evening there are several ghost walks which are supposed to be good to go on.
If you wanna know anything else pm me, I deliver into York city centre every day so I know it quite well.
Hope this helps
just been to york today, the wheel in the railway musem is well worth a look, expensive though at £6 per adult for about 15 mins

From Rotherham, it would probably be easier and cheaper to hop on the train.
We usually do a day in York for birthdays etc (mainly getting drunk!) and the train takes less than an hour. Once off the train, you can walk to just about all the attractions in a few minutes.
If York is so anti car, why don’t they shut all these exhibisions that encourage people to use their cars to get near to York before using the park and ride system?
It’s the same with the Eden project. It uses a load of energy to inform people that we are all ruining the planet by using energy. Well lets make a starts by using the Eden project as a RAF target practice. Then the remains would make a good Moto-X track.
