Yet another sat nav blunder?

flip flop.jpg

FLIPping eck, he made a complete FLOP of that !!

quote … A lorry driver who smashed into a listed house in a narrow village street in a suspected ‘sat nav blunder’ has been arrested.

The lorry driver crashed into a brick wall damaging the historic home in the quaint village of Woolpit, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

FTW :exclamation:

Wish I’d brought my camera on Tuesday. Artic in Lyme Regis trying to demolish the ancient Guildhall. I had to stop him before he totally smashed it down. He was English too!

Balls to SatNav blunder accusations! Sometimes ■■■■ happens.
We go where we’re sent.
If you’re committed and past the point of no return occasionally this kind of nightmare scenario ensues.
Talk of blunders and pontification really does grate.

Today, on my way up the A6024 to Holme village I was surprised to pass a rigid LGV and an artic stopped at the roadside. (I’d had a call from a friend to pick them up because buses and taxis weren’t prepared to go there because of the snow - with winter tyres on the car I had no trouble)

I heard that one of the drivers had asked (in broken English) “OK Manchester?”. Who would take a loaded artic over Holme Moss, even in good, dry weather? Not me, for one.

I take it that you do not know the old part of Woolpit then ■■

No TM or planner sends you down a ■■■■■ little street you should be in. You do that. The driver.

Ours try to. Poxy side streets in central London. Just drive the street a few times then call them and say you can’t get down.

Arrested why? Unless he ignored a weight or width restriction what’s the grounds for arrest? Even if he ignored a weight restriction that’s still hardly an arrestable offence is it? Damage occurred so what. Exchange insurance details and be on your way after recovery.

Under some criminal law statutes, criminal negligence is defined as any type of conduct that “grossly deviates” from normal, reasonable standards of an ordinary person. It generally involves an indifference or disregard for human life or for the safety of people.26 Oct 2015

I reckon the flip flops do pretty well overall, miles better than i would trying to get around where they come from in an artic.

Them’s fighting words on this forum!
Not instantly jumping on the anti EE driver bandwagon and launching into a tirade about how its all their fault wages are so low and none of them can drive “properly” is punishable by death if you listen to some of the members on here!

It doesn’t mention why the driver was arrested. Alcohol may be involved? Wouldn’t be the first time, and to be honest, even with a satnav sqaucking to “turn right now”, no one in their right mind would either turn into that corner, or keep going until you hit the building.
Driver either grossly incompetent, on the phone, or under the influence.

Ha ha ha “we go where were sent” - Your route takes you off of the edge of a cliff?? ■■■■■■■

There is no such thing as an “arrestable offence” these days (the term effectively disappeared from the statute books in 2006). A suspect can be arrested for any offence provided the arrest is necessary.

That’s my point mate, they can give you an address, but if it’s inaccessible then it’s up to you tell them. Not to lube up the sides of your truck and slide it up a road you don’t belong down in inappropriate equipment.

That’s why you are a driver, not a passenger…

Flip flops?? Would this be yet another term detriment to foreign drivers? If so what is it with racism on this forum :frowning:

I see, so the fact that lots foreign drivers are often seen wearing that kind of footwear, calling them a flipflop is racist??

Jesus, grow up. At the very worst its stereotyping. Its not racism. ■■■■■■.
