These two nearly made it but failed miserably

Another one today in Walkden

Their a bridge near rugby that one sign says 12 6 but when u get closer it then says 12 3 caught few trolley dolley out as right near a depot,

There’s one somewhere in London which is signposted as 14’9". Then, as soon as you’ve turned into the road and gone past the point of no return with your 14’8" trailer, there’s another sign which says “14’6” for vehicles over 30’ long". I might be out with the numbers, but that’s the gist of it. I went under (slowly and carefully!) without a problem anyway.

i’m sure a few will get caught out by the metric / imperial thing, maybe a few from converting metric to imperial and confusing the decimal of a foot for the inches. but i still think the vast majority are of the lapse in concentration type.

But if you look at all the example photos, most of the heights are marked in metric and imperial.

They are almost certainly down to a lapse in concentration in most cases.

If it’s the bridge I think you’re one about (A428 between DIRFT/Crick and Rugby) it’s actually the other way around - the advance signs at the A5 roundabout at DIRFT say 12’ 3", as does the sign on the A428 1 mile from the bridge itself. It’s only when you get to the bridge that it’s actually marked as 12’ 6" (although I am reliably informed that a 12’ 8" trailer will easily pass under it). All the advance warning signs on the Rugby side of the bridge say 12’ 6".

There’s another one on the A428 on the other side of Rugby towards Coventry which is marked at 12’ 3" on the bridge and most of the advance warning signs, although at least one of them says 12’ 2".

It could be a good idea to install system like that in case if someone is going to make a mistake

our units are 14’ 3".after some time off around Christmas,i came back to my truck, and the ‘driver’ that had been steering it had set the height thingy in the cab to 13’ 9" :open_mouth: obviously the height of his last trailer…there’s just no hope

another one same place in walkden 2 in 2 days

He must have been going at quite speed to make it all the way under!

How can hitting a bridge be acceptable. As I have to do agency work (different unit different trailer most days)) The height of unit and trailer is a normal check before going anywhere. Normally the traffic offices are hopeless when asking questions anyway. The trailer is normally higher than the unit so checking the trailer height on the left front of the trailer and checking the height indicator in the cab normally confirms the height.

As a side note I was driving a dd for uk mail out of Frome on nights, when returning suddenly there was this almighty siren going off in the cab. Initally it made me nearly have a heart attack. I looked all around and it was fitted with a siren and flashing lights in the cab to alarm the driver, that it was coming up to a low bridge. It was a designated route. No bridge

Well done to another bonehead Mcr to Sheffield rail services on their 3rd day of unnecessary disruption.

Apart from stupidity what’s the offence and should it be a short ban unless signage is found to be defective.

Resurrecting old threads should be frowned on as well :smiling_imp:
