Yes got a job..starting monday!

First of all…im 22 years old…you may already know…but i do look young!! So im thinking already…theres no chance im gonna get offered this job but ill give it a try…so…

I went to the interview with DHL today at 3:30pm at the Huntingdon Depot! Got there dressed smartly. worked out where the reception was [BIG PLACE]!!! Finally my interviewee arrived Martin Dean. Nice chap.

Took me upstairs to his office. We both sat down…general chat about myself and why i have chosen this profession. Few other questions. He then goes on to explain company policy about running legal, accidents, what the job is about where the deliveries are made, how there made…etc etc…lasted about half an hour. Then i had to do a small written test…Tacho laws, hours…road signs and a few other little bts and bobs. There were a few things i didnt know regaurding weekend rest periods so already im thinking…no chance i can get this job!!

Then the moment arrived…“Right John shall we go for a bit of a drive”!! This was the moment id been waiting for!! So we headed down to the traffic office…seems theres a lot of swearing and stressed faces in this room…all chatting about agency drivers not turning up!!! Anyway…martin picked the keys up…and we head outside to the truck park…im gonna be driving a 2004 MAN TGA!!! At this point im panicking about the gearbox as ive never driven one before! But…all is explained and im soon drivin down the road quite happily…drive was uneventful…first time driving a loaded trailer and i can tell all the newbies now…from a newbies point of view…its [zb]ing scary driving a fully freighted curtainsider!! I was crappin myself! lol…But still nice drive etc etc…got back to the depot…parked up…dropped trailer and parked unit up!

Martin says to me…“So John…how do you think that went…and if you were in my position would you offer me the job”…i say…“i think it went ok but i was a bit nervous…a bit more practice and i should be absolutely fine”…i also say “i really want this job, i wouldnt ever let you down, id be on time all the time, reliable trustworthy and i am very eager to be given the chance to prove myself”…with that said…he offered me the job! Another very good point is ill be sharing a MAN TGA with a nightman! My own truck…almost!! woo hoooo!!

Starting Monday for induction day…then a week out with a fellow driver sat in Shotgun!! Thank goodness there not just gonna chuck me the keys and a map and say off you pop!

Well happy…chuffed to bits!!

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

I reckon that’s ace.

Well done. :sunglasses:

Well done John, It can sometimes take a while to get a job but it is worth it in the end. At least with a big company you will have some backup (probably!!!)

well done malone thats brilliant. those DHL wagons are wll smart, was parked next to one overnight at keele on thursday made my battered MAN look rather inferior!!

i agree with kitkat above tho i’ll bet its not long until they chuck the keys and notes at you and say off you go. thats what my first week was like last week, never bought so many maps!! however its probably the best way to learn.

good luck with it mate
