Yellow box junctions.

May be asked before but, is it legal to be on a yellow box junction with the trailer wheels which is 10-15 yards before a before a set of traffic lights that are on red?

no

I’m assuming that you mean that you went through one set of lights only to be held up by traffic at the next set of lights thus leaving your trailer wheels in the box junction?

If that’s the case then yes, ntechnically you have comitted the offence of entering a box junction when your exit is not clear. Meanwhile back in the real world we’ve all done that, and unfortunately in todays congested cities in order to make progress we’ll continue to do so.

Your problems will start with (a) an over zealous copper, or (b) a camera monitoring said junction. (I know which one I’d rather negotiate with).

No, I mean 1 that is just before a pelican crossing, this one is at Northallerton.
The white vehicles windscreen is just about were the stop line is for the crossing.

It would be deemed unreasonable in court to prosecute a driver for having part of the vehicle in a box where the choice was to run a red light of get caught in the box

The road planners probably set up this with a view to small vehicles only

A similar situation can occur where a give way line has a pedestrian crossing near it and that gap is not sufficient to fit in a large vehicle without it contravening one or the other - crossing clear - go to give way line for view - get prevented from proceeding - crossing lights change to red = no prosecution for blocking the crossing

this happened to me in SE London (Lewisham Grove, I think), the unit cleared the lights but the trailer was still in the box. I received a penalty charge, which I appealed on the grounds that for me to clear the junction in one go, I would need sixty clear feet of space on the other side, and this NEVER happens in London. I pointed out that I waited through several cycles of the lights but every time a gap appeared, someone filled it. I was left with no option but to proceed and stop in the junction. I also noticed that buses did it all the time. The charge was set aside.

Technically it is,as said, but if its just your wheels of trailer then you would be extremely unfortunate to get a pull for it. If you try to leave a big enough space at some junctions you would be there all day as it would just keep getting filled up with cars or vans

add my pennies worth, cost me 65 notes for same thing, hope you dont get the fine but i would put a little cash aside

Another point to note here is that the offence is to enter the box area while your exit is not clear, so for instance if you want to turn right at a box junction and the road your are turning into is clear then you CAN enter the junction

You accepted it !!!

Can confirm it isn’t. Before they changed the junction at the top end of the Tyne Tunnel I got caught on the roundabout out by morons who jumped into the gap I’d let build up and ended up with a couple of feet of trailer overhanging the yellow box. Copper stood on the island at the roundabout gave me a FPN despite seeing exactly what had occurred.
