The native driver broom in hand.
The foreign driver steering wheel in hand.
And still the native moan.
The shysters in our yard who give planners a hard time have been sitting in the yard. I have been out all week. Last week I only drove round the yard never went out.

It seems more a case of where I am that the employed drivers continue to drive , agency are yard duties / spare , which is fair enough

Meanwhile the industry moans about the lack of interest shown by new drivers. Not exactly a great advert of encouragement to get the class 1.Also bearing in mind the continuous anti road transport propaganda barrage proclaiming how many truck journeys have been removed from the roads by whatever method.

Could’ve been worse, I mean they could’ve had him doing warehouse duties.

To be fair yard duties could mean stacking pallets and moving stuff around by hand and washing units and sweeping up outside in the wet and cold.
Warehouse duties could mean trundling around inside with a powered pallet truck.
Obviously not in the case of UPS at least.
Not exactly out on the open road in line with the licence regardless

If they’ve got a mortgage or rent to pay and a family to feed they really won’t want my advice.
If not then do what I should have done.Tell them all to shove their crap jobs.
If they want a yard/warehouse labourer then employ one.If they don’t need a class 1 driver to drive then they don’t need to pay class 1 money for the job.
