I’ve been out of the loop of RDC work for a long time but thought this kind of retardedness has long since ended?
XPO Doncaster want you to drop your trailer on your bay while they tip it, then park up elsewhere in the yard solo, then you have to give them the unit keys “for the health and safery of our warehouse workers”. I politely refused and after getting nowhere trying to explain how the former didn’t affect the latter in any way, offered to park up off-site and leave my number to ring when it was ready. This, to my surprise, was accepted.
See I don’t mind that. Would much prefer it over any waiting room malarkey. They can have the keys to the truck. It’s keyless anyway and I always keep the central locking fob
This insistence on their employees welfare at the expense of the drivers needs to stop.
Well as you consider yourself to be a smart arse, you can explain to me how parking the unit up in the corner of a mostly empty yard with not another vehicle or person coming with 100ft of it, ensures the welfare of their employees by taking the truck keys. In your own time.

To stop you hitching the trailer up before they are ready, and out the way.
And before you say it doesn’t happen, today we had a container in here with only the front twistlocks locked, as the driver said ‘they will hold it’…

Seeing as I…
Completely agree with you, I’m not quite sure why I need the time.
Brabantia in Congresbury, put trailer on the bay. Monkey comes out with salvo lock. You remove red air line. HE then clamber up to fit the salvo lock. Driver not allowed to do it… . Fair enough. But wait… you then need to hand in your keys…
I sure that elfinsafety officers have a forum somewhere, where they try to outdo each other in the “over the top stakes”.
“You wont believe want I make the visiting drivers do now…”
Wearing the hi-viz clown trousers to collect a load of bricks in an open air yard…
XPO are just useless.Same as Tamworth you uncouple then take the red air line and put a lock which they take the keys and they still want your keys. These days i dont all that one day i told them i will buy a few shares in XPO and go cause mayhem at the Annual General meeting.
old co-op at cardinal did that , or similar , you tip the load but had to hang the keys on the bay door just in case the driver drove off while you were tipping load , I didn’t argue as I was on a salary & just wanted to go home ASAP
The examples highlighted in this thread are one of the reasons for me not returning to driving, my brain has to see some kind of logic for my emotions to be calm.
