Xmas eve run for home , what's it looking like for you

Muckaway:

HAIRYGORILLA:
at least you will be getting home think of the armed forces who wont be home yet again at Christmas, or the nurses drs ambulance crews etc just as there shift is going to finish a major incident happens and they stay behind . and everyone else who has to work does that put it in perspective for you dozy cheer up. is it too early for a beer will we get the same post new years eve .same answer

The list could go on and on but they’re all career choices. I’d never do a job which required Christmas Day working, we don’t need any trucks running on Christmas Day except fore engines and milk tankers. Anything else can wait. Why work somewhere that works over Christmas and then cry about it?

spot on. People moan about tippers skips builders merchant type jobs but it’s one of the few transport jobs with sensible hours and pretty set hours that baring a bad accident or something holding you up that you can pretty much know when your finishing and plan round it

That’s great KR79 if you want or need stability, and if you do I say fair play to you and sincerely hope that your job provides it for you.

For me however, the real lure of transport was and still is its unpredictability; I absolutely love the panicked call from the traffic office “can you nip over to XYZ as we have a major problem we’d like you to sort”. I love it when I get the call changing my job, I love having to problem solve and think on my feet.

I fully appreciate that some people would loathe that and I have no problem whatsoever with that fact, it’s just that IMO if I wanted regular hours and a strictly set out work schedule I quite simply would’ve embarked on a different career path.

Sorry if that was slightly rambling, my best friends Bud and Weiser have come around to play.

What a load of ■■■■■■■■ Maoster.

Who likes getting [zb]ed about?

You chose this path in life because you like getting paid to sit on your arse listening to the radio all day like the rest of us.

There’s jobs out there where you can get paid to sit on your arse listening to the radio all day and still be home for tea every night, but you haven’t got one of them.

Don’t pretend you like being [zb]ed about though.

Who says I’m being ■■■■■■ about? Apart from your perception that is. I get paid exactly the same no matter what piece of Tarmac I drive on and no matter what the destination. Why wouldn’t I like a bit of variety? I’m out all week through my own choice so it really makes no difference as to what duties the company that pay my wages expect me to do.

Like I said previously I don’t expect that to float everybody’s boat, and clearly that sort of thing wouldn’t appeal to you, but I gave an honest answer that for some reason you find hard to understand. That’s cool though, different strokes for different folks and all that.

I just think it’s absurd to suggest that you would’ve chose a different career if lorry pointing was guaranteed to get you home at a set time every night.

You chose this job because you’re inherently lazy like the rest of us did and not because of the unpredictable nature of most lorry pointing jobs.

God yeah, you are absolutely correct in that I am inherently lazy. I think that most of us are if circumstances allow tbh, but I think you misunderstood part of my point; I chose lorry driving precisely because it wouldn’t get me home every night, my point being that if I wanted routine I’d have been something else instead.

Btw, I really honestly do like unpredictable, I’ve chased women ever since I realised that it wasn’t just for hanging towels on! Nothing gets more unpredictable than them!

Hang a towel on it? :open_mouth:
Now you ARE boasting

Has doze got back yet by the way??

robroy:
Has doze got back yet by the way??

Anyone laying odds on the possibility he comes on tomorrow and posts about how the office called him on Friday night when he was parked up and got him to do another load today? And that he actually did it and spent tonight parked up in a layby?

dozy:
Well we got back ,I informed t.o on way to first drop that if they ran me out of hours and I had to run in on xmas day that I would be having Boxing Day off as my xmas day :exclamation: ,phone rang on way back and I was told to see planner when I got back ,in the meantime the 2 nd run disappeared off the ISO trac ,got back and planner took fleet number and said take a seat ,2 hrs ish later calls me over and asks fleet number again ,studies screen , then gives me a gate code to get out ,says walk slowly and keep it to yourself and off you go ,back in yard 13.30 and on way home ,no idea if it was the threat of I’ll have Boxing Day off ,or more likely there was no second run left ( full of drivers ) .
Chuffed ,but mates arnt daft and think the [zb] hit the fan ,heard boss saying get him out ,he’s jacking when he gets back ,and heard mate on phone saying if they don’t let me out when I’ve dropped tri I’ll knock the zb barrier down :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,
Even though it’s not my fault I was allowed to go and they had to stay, don’t think I’ll be the flavour of the month on Saturday :frowning: :frowning:

:unamused: People want him off pre mod but don’t read his posts tut tut (page 2, near end)

That’s the thing with pre mod though aint it, he posted last night but it was not put on until today, so we are on page 3, and his post is put on page 2.

Sorry but I read that this morning before I started taxi job for today, I also read a few replies asking where he was while waiting but couldn’t be arsed to reply until now (finished and on beer  )

Once i stood Xmas in Spain. Comming from Porto i had in mind to visit Midnite Mass. Parked 150 Meter from Church and waited, waited, waited. In Bed at 02.00 without Church went Life.
At Morning i sah that i was waiting at an Crop Silo :grimacing:

No doubt some do truly love the not knowing what’s happening but one of the biggest gripes I read about on here and on hgv pages on Facebook is drivers ■■■■■■■■ about not knowing what time they will finishing running out of hours and running in Saturday and not been able to plan stuff due to this.

Dozy. Stobart planners are like sharks. Once they sense weakness in a driver, they home in on you. A bit like ’ blood in the water '.

You are clearly very unhappy at Stobart’s, so why don’t you stand up a little? What’s the worse that can happen? You eventually get sacked, and just go and get a better job.

With your self respect and sanity in place.

Doze mate, what area of UK are you based ?
Have you tried any of your local firms for vacancies?

Kick those arse wipes into touch, get on with another firm that are not going to ■■■■ you about, but this time don’t make the same mistake and become a doormat, (sorry to be harsh btw)
This time do your job to the best of your ability, but at the same time display to them and tell them that you will not be ■■■■ ed about, but in a friendly professional polite non arsey way.
New year new start, slate clean, no more stress. :bulb:
Good luck mate.

Immigrant, you owe me a new phone, I have dropped it down the loo while reading your very funny post about mistaking a crop silo for a church, funniest post of 2015.

Spot on. Listen. Sound advice. Once you start saying no, politely of course, they will tend to start listening. If they get rid. Not your loss. Most drivers can’t walk out of a job straight into a new one. If your worth keeping on they will keep you on. Despite turning loads down. But as been said plenty before. If they don’t listen. I don’t think I would be working for them. There is some give and take. But not over Xmas or important appointments etc.

I dropped much more. Was out over Xmas as i parked up on the wrong Date.
Got stopped in France then,as i waited on the 23th
Could have done it Home, but first i messed up a Night to wait for the Spedition. (ordered by Office)
Had already 24 Ton Wooden Floor for Ikea and they put another 4 Ton Groupage on. 43 Ton total :exclamation:
Then, (without Calendar ) i was sure its the 24th,as that Date was on the CMR. Just after the Border i sah the Church Tower and just in Mud for a Prayer. (Could have done it over Night till France)
