Can an employer make an employee work more than 48 hours a week?
Well the maximum you can work under the WTD regulations is 60 hours a week which should be averaged out over the reference period to no more than 48 hours.
Weather or not an employer can expect you to work more than 48 hours I would think depends on your employment conditions, contract of employment, normal time worked ec’t.
But that’s only my opinion and may well be refuted shortly

No one can make you do anything you don’t want to do. If they want you to do something you don’t want to do, just say no. It’s not as if jobs are in short supply.
