I can’t really see how it benefits the employer for drivers to be forced to use “other work” instead of POA or break
Am I missing something ?

i think tachograph is right the transport industry couldnt cope if they did that i don
t doubt they`l try it but im sure it get kicked into touch, alot of driver only make a decent wage threw the poa overtime
and i would be wanting a shift every couple of weeks to gain some experience, just spoke to a agency tho and they said they want two years exp for all there jobs so i asked for advice how to get some exp to be told to go direct threw companies! i thought it was other way round?

Try another agency or wait for this one to become desperate for a driver
yeah looks like i will have to all others have been fine so far, i would rather work direct for a company anyway so i hope there right

thanks for all congrats and replies, right so i could work 60 hours a week for example 45 hours driving and other work and 15 poa? is that rightyou could do 48 hours of combined driving & other work every week as long as the other is either POA or rest.
The maximum combination of driving & other work in any one week is 60 hours but if you add on POA & breaks for which you get paid then there is the potential to do a 70+ hour PAID week
Blimey, just realised that I have been a naughty boy.
Since my driving job is at night, I have been working for myself in the construction industry as a ‘sole trader’ during the day. Since I average more than the 70 hours per week, I have been breaking the rules!
I called myself into the office. gave myself a verbal warning, made a note in my file and sent myself home for a week - unpaid!!
LOL
Seriously tho’ I now realise I am gonna have to be very careful from now until I realise my dream and start driving full time! Yikes!
so just to clarify do firms have to pay you for poa is it law or something?

I don’t think there is a legal requirement but I think they would find it hard to get a driver to sit around for hours and not get paid
very true i cant see how theyd get away with it really as its still working time (technically) and its not your fault your still wanting to work like.so with too much poa you
d be under the minimum wage act wouldnt you? noy really sure tho
are there any drivers out there that dont get paid for poa`s?
We don’t, but then I don’t bother using them. I’m on a mileage scheme so what we book our time as is irrelevant for the purposes of getting paid.
Tachograph, cheers for those bits of legislation re:non-driving work and the WTD. Have learnt something there, as it clarifies that my freelance work doesn’t count. I never have counted it on the grounds of self-employment, but it’s still useful to know.
