Just been reading an article from this months ‘Trucking’ magazine about a driver who sadly died in his cab whilst overseas at a service station in Italy. His company, Mathews Transport from Great Yarmouth told the drivers Wife they would not cover the cost to repatriat him back to the UK because their insurance would not cover the expense but managed to go and pick his Lorry up.
The family had to raise the money themselves via online donations.
The company did offer the family £5000 if the family didn’t speak to the press.
I was quite shocked that a company would do this to a serving driver and their family at such a destressing time.
So it got me thinking, if you drive overseas, would your company step in if, ‘God forbid’ your family found themselves in the same position.
I have tried to post a picture of the article via my phone but I’m not sure it worked.
