Biggest dislike is the massive increase in the sheer incompetents with a HGV licence I’ve seen.
I can’t disagree with you there.

Glad i’m not the only one who feels this way.
You do your best to improve our image but some days you really feel like your wasting your time when you see what some drivers get up to.
I had a 'Nuther F[zb] T[zb] Distribution FM12 force me onto the M6 this morning as I was going north on the M1. He’d come past me - or at least 2/3rds - and then indicated left and swerved into the side of me when I didn’t pull onto the M6 myself
. If I didn’t have more about me I would have stood my ground and let him hit me but I see this kid of [zb] every night now
.
Isn’t this the company where most of their workforce are of an Eastern European origin? Say no more.

We could have been one member down there Paul - banged up on a ‘causing death by dangerous driving’ charge .
Even idiot car drivers don’t deserve to die, and especially not their innocent passengers.
Hypocrisy lives.
(Quote from Rob)
I love it and wouldn’t do anything else. I made just over £24k last year which was excellent considering I only worked about half of the year (through choice). Can’t see me getting such a flexible job that pays that kind of money elsewhere and as easy as this one too.
Can I get a job with you Rob £48000
i absolutly love the job. i dont want to be home, and want to see europe and beyond from my windscreen to see the ‘real world’ as i think of it. perhaps its because im not very old that the ‘novelty’ has not worn off, but i can easily see how people get fed up with the job
You could have a point there Euromat. Part of my being fed up with it is to do with seeing the same old places day in/day out.
Perhaps I should get a new passport sorted out and do the odd European run. Got absolutely no experience of driving in Europe apart from what I did in the Army some 15 years ago so it’ll be all new.
I know a couple of O/D’s who do European work so might see if I can blag a ride out with them. I’m sure they won’t turn down the opportunity to double man with a cost free second driver. Have to read up on double manning tacho rules again as I’ve not used them for donkeys years.
did my apprentiship as engineer , id be better paid, hours etc but i always wanted to do this and i really look forward to going to work, i moan sometimes but i really do enjoy it, bit sad but true.

get it sorted and get out there, after all what do you have to lose? if you dont like it, you dont have to do it!!
I got out 3 years ago, still get pangs every now and again but got a place at college doing a HNC in computing.
See how that goes, hopefully well, if not still got my licence to fall back on.
Napier uni in Edinburgh do a degree in transport management after 2 years college can go into 3rd year of that course, I’ll see what happens, you never know I might be your boss in a few years
Came back to driving after a break of 12 Years in IT. Just passed my Class one and looking forward to not answering stupid peoples questions about computers… Just stupid peoples questions about what time I’ll be there, how many drops have I got left, have I got a spare pair of socks etc etc etc.
I got heartily sick of the job a few years ago and did a spur of the moment change of career - I bought the burger van where I used to stop for my breaks.
I had this little van for nearly two years and had a great time flipping burgers and piling bacon into fresh baked bread for -…err …all the truckers that I have helped get on the road and driving school instructors that I used to work with!
There was no getting away from it!!
Actually, although I enjoyed myself and made a more money than I do on the road it is VERY hard work. No skiving days off as I had my boys to feed.
I was rally very proud of my little van and, having been on the road myself, made sure that I served up good quality and plenty of it.
Eventually I was given an offer I couldnt refuse and went back to the trucks.
What else is there to do■■?
I voted that i would leave, but I can’t imagine what sort of job would make me leave. Until I started driving a couple of years ago all my working life I have made things. First in the building trade then 28 years making things out of fibreglass and i do miss that finished product feeling. maybe retraining as a stone mason.
Quite like the job I’ve got now dragging tin boxes around, have to see what turns up.
A mate of mine was moaning to me the other week how his missus had turned into a right minger over the last 10 years, let herself go and he couldnt seem to see the girl he married anymore. he said he still loved her in a way but mourned the loss of the girl he married.
I realised thats how I feel about this industry. I loved it once and everyday was exiting and new. The open road was like a new adventure everyday but I dont recognise it anymore. The good bosses are nearly all in their boxes and in there place are these brash A holes who think an eta is Kms/90. They talk to you as if you are [zb] under their noses. If you cant make your tip cos of holdups you are a failure. The roads are all clogged and theres no time to enjoy anything. I used to find my hands gripping the wheel so tight and I never knew I was doing it till I let go. You cant relax at night for the fear of thieves nicking your load and cant relax during the day for the fear of breaking a minor rule and losing your licence. The final cherry on the cake is that I cant seem to respect a lot of the drvers out there because they are so aggressive and in many cases useless. I dont feel that affinity anymore.
I said in a previous post that when I’m not doing it I miss it but thats not really true . I miss how it used to be and its gone.
If your new and keen. big respect but you really did miss a great time that will never return. Thats sad

Good post, daneinter. I especially like the bit about kms/90 - so true, even though I’m one of the younger(ish) generation.
I think that the figures of the pole were quite interesting at the moment I typed this it was a straight 50-50 split. which I find a bit alarming that 50% would walk away from it if they could…don’t know why but thought it would higher in favour of staying in the game
anyway thanks all for the input
