Would you?

Question to transporter drivers: Would you drive with a full top deck with the top deck raised?
No experience of transporters, but would like to know.
I do know that one of our d/d trailers went out with only the top deck loaded and raised, and turned over at the first roundabout.
This outfit already has a lean on, and this is on the M5

I am not a car transporter driver, but that looks wrong to me…

Sorry double post!

Looks risky to me.Asking for trouble. I would have moved the vehicles to the bottom deck.( I’ve never driven a car transporter though).

I personally would have thought to save unloading and reloading the cars, at the very least to drop the top deck down, but then again, what do I know?
Come on some of you transporter drivers, tell us the truth!

I’m guessing that…

The bottom decks were previously loaded and the car you see is last drop. Rather than drop the deck, un-strap, drive off, raise the deck, drive onto lower deck and re-strap it. The driver has decied to push on to the last drop like that. You could say because the car is still there and the whole thing is still upright, that there’s nothing wrong per-se.

It would be common sense to lower the decks but there seems a lack of that everywhere these days! :unamused:

I’ve done a few stints on rigid transporters & would take the 2 minutes to lower the decks & 2 more to raise them for the next collection than having my arse pinching the seat round each corner!!

yes i would, but id also drop the top deck down with the cars on it

I seem to think the top deck was full, if this was the last car off I would have thought it would be still at the front.
Even if there was only the one car on the arse end, would still make my ring twitch, but as I said, having no transporter experience
what do I know?
But if I wanted to get some experience, my initiative, (Yes I’ve still got some of that, even though we’re not allowed to use it these days), tells me this is not the way to do it.

Just an anecdote whilst on this subject.
When doing m/e forty years ago, in Saudi they had plenty of room so car transport artics were sixty footers with fixed decks and usually ten Nissan pickups on,with no securing apart from hand brake on.
At one time on a diversion round some road works in a windy dirt road, one went over and dumped his top deck in someone’s front garden, sorry I was not able to get a pic.

Nothing wrong with that for Mway running. Transporters have a low CofG and he’s dropped the deck a bit anyway.
Bit like DD buses always look more unstable than they really are.

Cars are relatively light weight anyway and they’ll be enough weight lower down with just the trailer weight for that not to be a problem.
