well i expected a slightly higher class of opinion or even debate. sadly coffeeholic and connor dont seem to be able to debate, for all the slagging the facts are still the facts. drivers are being robbed. com 2014 i would like to bet that drivers over a certain age will be exempt. the fact is there is not enough training hours left to train a sufficient amount drivers. i will then gloat at the drivers who have not the balls to stand up to injustice.
i foolishly thought there was some remenanants of comradeship in the industry. As for those who think for one second they will gain a big pay rise in 2014 i am afraid you will be in for a shock. look at recent history to see the future. if you have the capability of understanding.
im really not expecting much of a pay rise next year,2013 or 2014,ive had a 40%+ pay rise this year, fuel bonus gone up from £3.50 to £5.00,what with the company giving me 40%+ pay rise,a days o/t for cpc, free food i think it would have to have a bit of a nerve to expect them to put there hand in there pocket for a few years
mavrick:
coffeeholic has got it. it is little different than the dcpc.
It is very different. One is an employer charging you to work for THEM and only them. The other is paying a small amount to have a ‘qualification’ that enables you to work in your chosen industry, something that workers in many industries have to do
You mean a Tax then Coffee!
No, I don’t mean that. That is just used as a buzzword and it’s ■■■■■■■■ in my opinion. If I was paying for it myself I would be claiming for the cost on my tax return and I wouldn’t be putting it down as a tax, I would be calling it something like training fees. I don’t think you can claim back a tax on your tax return.
dessy:
The Dcpc is not a trade qualification like what is required to be a Plumber or Electrician or is it!
It’s something we will need to continue to do this trade so it isn’t a million miles different.
dessy:
Oh hang on! I just paid £19.00 for my Digicard renewal. Isn’t that a qualification aswell! I’m starting to think I’m over qualified!
No, don’t be daft. That’s not a qualification, that’s a tool you need to do your job. To use your analogy the digi card, and your LGV entitlement, is like the plumber’s wrench or the electricians multimeter.

I ran your post through the Forum Words International Translator at fwit.com and it came back with some interesting results, especially the first line.

well I expected more people to agree with me, that’s not fair, and I will now resort to slagging people off instead
Talking of recent history do you remember all those drivers who said there was no way they were going to pay for a digi tacho card and would hang up there keys instead? There were loads on here who said it but very, very few actually did it and instead they now have digi cards.

Digi cards arent much though, compared to dcpc course. I think it would be a ■■■■ take to expect drivers to pay their own dcpc, but if we have to pay so be it.

It is a sad day when british people accept they have to pay for the right to work.
Well go and campaign for people to get free C+E licences then, as it is they’re queueing up to pay about £1500 a pop for them !!!
Oh, and free medicals for the over 40’s !!!

I remember seeing a documentry years ago about a shoe company that was having trouble.
The workers agreed to work for 1 hr per week overtime free of charge.
The company went from strength to strength.
It’s the old question, take a pay cut and the company survives, or carry on as normal and the company goes down.
sorry but that did not work for us at jdf barnsley in 09
we went down to 4 day week for 8 months to keep the company going . but it went ■■■■ up and 114 went on the friggin dole.

Sorry that we haven’t met your expectations in the reasoned debate department. Maybe you ought to go find another forum with some more like minded militants that will suit your purpose more adequately.

If companies decided to charge drivers £1.oo per day to carry on working for them wuold you pay it? bare in mind it is a tiny% of your earnings?

What’s the point in that Mike? You still have to pay for the Dcpc! As no one will stand together!
I would like to put the record straight in view of some comments on this post.
I have been driving all types of vehicle since 1978 hgv 1 psv 1 as they were at the time, i have had experience of most types of wagons, loads, and hazchem/adr and i have a cpc national. i have worked at various levels in the industry from driver to senior positions. however i am not a trainer, or a union man although i remember the bitter drivers strike in the 70s just to get £1.00 per hour. when i see the dcpc and threads like this it just makes my blood boil that grown men and women drivers sit there and allow their intelligence to be insulted to such a degree. i cant understand companies simply rolling over and paying or not for a course that has no value. i am all for good quality training by experienced people, that is priceless. The time has come for us all to stand together and protest to euro MPs, British MPs and the media.i am not talking about an all out strike but a show of unity against this injustice. I know from reading the posts on this forum there are many capable drivers who could put together a training package worth having. we all know newbies struggle to get proper hands on training in the different loads etc. so if we are to be classed as professionals lets make some professional suggestions to the people that can change things,ie the dft, phill hammond transport secretary. the average age of hgv drivers in britain is mid 50s and very little new blood is coming into this industry. when you see a qustion paper like the one posted above it shows the contempt they have for drivers. i know many drivers may not be academic but that does not give these clowns the right to disrespect you and your contribution to the country. we put more in than we take out thats for sure. so i hope that clears up where i am coming form. i hope enough on this forum will be bothered to e-mail their mp etc.its not too late.

Seriously fella, see a doctor. You seem very stressed over something so unimportant in the grand scheme of things. More so, you seem to be stressing on behalf of others ■■ That is very worrying and potentially you are only damaging your own health more each day. Perhaps some counciling or prescription medication is what you need and quickly before you stroke out behind the wheel and kill someone, other than yourself.
Personally I would like to see some kind of pyschometric testing included in both the initial and periodic DCPCs, before anybody is let loose behind the wheel of an LGV. Clearly judging by some of the replies in this, and other, threads many people should not be in the job.
