I’d pull the pin and sod off to the next services in the unit and have some KFC.the look on plods face would make that worthwhile.

The question is would that be poa or break.

Lol
I am pretty sure if you stuck it into crawler and diff locked it (where possible) you should be able to pull it onto the hard shoulder, not sure I would want to be anywhere near the vehicle sat in even a nearside lane let alone the middle, if the Wombles have turned up and watching my back and controlling traffic flow I would happily do what I could, once made a hand throttle out of some electrical wire up out the front flap up to the cab window to get me home one late Friday, that was interesting whilst juggling the eaton twin, rain and rush hour lol

POC actually… Piece Of Chicken
Was heading south M1 few years back, bloke on opposite side got out of vehicle, presumably to retrieve something fallen off nearside lane,as I passed saw reaction on his face as he realized he’d ‘messed up’ big time, looked in mirror saw him bounced into middle lane by 6 axle tipper, cars piling into the back, never forgot this, even to suggest getting out into live lane wtf■■?
Phantom Mark:
Are you not referring to that Renault premium in lane 2 on the 69 southbound just after j5 ■■? I went past the ■■■■■■ after being held up just as they drove it onto the hard shoulder ■■
When I passed him the skid mark was from the unit and stretched back half the trailer length. Didn’t notice the make/model but it was a DHL wagon, saw the little yellow sticker.
Also, I think you mean J1 southbound M69 for the A5, as it only has J1 and J2. J3 being M1/Leicester
Yes your right in both instances, meant A5 not J5 lol

Do I have to go through the main menu for that? The option just after ferry mode?
But yeah, his units brakes came on. However, I don’t know if it was his tag axle or all of his brakes. He was on the phone when I passed him

maybe he just stopped to make a call.
limeyphil:
what would you do if one of your trailer brakes locked on in the middle lane of the m6?
would you just sit there holding everyone up?
or would you get off your arse and do a running repair to get yourself to the next services?
just drag it onto the hard shoulder with the brakes locked on, the unit, if it is good enough, will pull it
once on the hard shoulder, then fix the problem to get me home without causing more problems
yeah, but what if the unit has its brakes stuck on
It was driving away into the hard shoulder under its own steam as I went by, no recovery was on site to indicate a repair had been done either ■■ Unless they already left super quick ■■
Saratoga:
yeah, but what if the unit has its brakes stuck on
they won’t all be stuck on. so just cable tie off the pipe on the offending one. if it’s the front axle, then do both sides.
even if the park brake on the unit is stuck on, the unit would still pull over on to the hard shoulder over the park brake
what would the boss rather replace, the brakes on the rear of the unit which would probably need replacing anyway, or the trailer after another truck has smashed into the back of it?

very few trucks have parking brake on the front axle

you are correct but if you loose all air the front brakes will come on with the rears…
Hi, not posted before but wanted to ask are people talking about chopping the air line to the service port of the brake chamber and tie-wrapping if not exhausting?
If spring parking portion had lost air surely you’d be looking at winding off and unless you’d got the wind off tool and spanner in the cab you’d have no chance as the tools are normally well-corroded to the chamber, assuming they’re there at all.

that is the general idea, remove the emergency air supply to the chamber and wind off the spring, the other option if you can’t wind off the spring, wind off the slack adjuster

all you have to do is kink the pipe, and put a cable tie round it. no tools needed.

That would have to be the service only though and you’d need to have noticed which wheel or you would end up having to get under the trailer with the unit parking brake off.
I think this sort of thing is ok with drivers who are known non-muppets but I can kinda see why the big Co’s wouldn’t encourage it.
