I have just passed my class 2 in the last couple of months and started a job in a truck then got offered a job in a van, same sort of money but van comes home with me, and no nights out. So would you swap the truck for the van if the money was the same ?
No
James the cat:
No
What he said ^ I’ve driven vans
Only if it was easier or better paid. Or a combination of both.
Money and your time beat any kind of prestige I feel driving what’s essentially an oversized van anyway.
You are already in a van
As a newbie the answer is no. If had been at it 20 years then probably yes.
Van,7.5 tonne truck is hard, danger job .Bad seating position, small mirrors, manual gearbox, engine have not big power.
Depends on how many drops. Yesterday I opened my back doors once, today it was 3
bulk tipper work so ok loading but 3 tips in one day
Nearly forgot to add I have to physically open and close my back doors they are not operated from the cab in and out of the cab all day - knackered

When you say “your truck” , i presume its a company vehicle and you are an employed driver?
If the money is right,yes.
I have never been a cab happy willy waver.
One thing I would be very wary of is the hours. If it’s an ordinary van (not 7.5T) then you’ve got no tacho and thus no restrictions on hours, so they could have you driving insane hours without breaks. I would defo be a bit suspicious unless the money for the HGV was very low as I’ve seen plenty of van jobs at £12 - 15K and would expect HGV 2 to be £20K+.
However, if it’s got a decent wage like £25 - 30K then do they need anyone else?
Declan…If you won a million quid, you’d moan that it wasn’t 2 million.
If the money and job is right il drive whatever it is.
I mainly do class 1 but il cover what needs doing on my firm if needed from 7.5 ton skips roll on etc
If I got equal, or better money, and more time at home, I’d pedal a ■■■■■■■ tricycle round all day! It’s not what you’re in/doing, it’s the quality of life you can have when you’re not doing it that counts, I’ve never seen a headstone that read “he loved his job”!!
Easier Job with a Van. Has even Manual Gearbox
Depence wot Work
Yes, but it depends on many things. Pay, hours, etc.
Prepare to get beasted on minimum wage.
I was surprised when we last advertised for a van/7.5 driver that we had a few class 1/2 drivers apply. However good a van rate you pay, trucks are going to pay more.
We had 2 guys out this week, opened the doors on Monday to load, opened the doors to tip on Wednesday in Sweden and that was the total amount of door opening for the whole week! Even UK on ours it’s mostly one drop, maximum three.
Immediately.
Problem is I couldn’t get the van on the car park! Low bloody roof.

I feel your pain, I had 3 adventures with me backdoors yesterday.
Once to check the box was was clean, then again to open them in preparation for load receipt, then again to close after receiving a full load.
I’m a driver not a bloody bellboy.
