Hey guys ermm a few weeks ago I was with an agency based in Manchester. He got me loads of work and then started going really quiet. Then he phoned me and asked if I wanted to work for a company in Wigan so I said yes. I had never heard of them but off I popped anyways. So I gets there and sign all the paperwork get my licence checked and so on. Then the question are you 25? I says no I’m 21 agency hasn’t said out about age so tm says it doesn’t matter and then another question, are you ADR qualified once again I said no haven’t been told any of this by the agency. So tm says its ok anyways and he sends me out for the whole week. So I really needed the money and this was the only work I could get at this point so I done it. Problem is looking back now I realise how much crap I would have been in if I got caught by either police or VOSA but on other hand would the company have got in any trouble for sending me out. Cheers guys

What were you hauling and in what quantities and what sort/ size of vehicle? And what plates did you have showing ?
More than likely as I suspect it was totally illegal and you could get deep in the ■■■ if caught doing it…but lets get all the info.
I have removed the company name… please don’t repost it
The question is did you transport any cargo that would come under ADR? - if not then you have no problem, same with the age thing, the company may have preferred an older driver but nothing in your post suggests that you did anything illegal.
If push came to shove I suspect that Somethingroute would have claimed only to be an agent involved in matching available loads with available hauliers They would have claimed- probably rightfully- that it is down to the haulier (you) to ensure that you were compliant with all relevant rules & regulations.
As has been mentioned before, DEEP ■■■!
And well done for not admitting what you were carrying

if the FREIGHT is hazardous and not classified as LTD QTY then you MUST NOT take it out if you do not have ADR
I was carrying all normal load such as kitchen worktops and hydroponic materials but I had a couple of big green barrels of some sort of chemical which is used for golf course lawns which I delivered to a golf course on the Wirral. I will be sure not to make this mistake again I have also left the agency and now with another.

Suitably fettled thanks
Chances are you didn’t do anything illegal and the company was abiding by the law. By asking if you were ADR trained, if you had said yes then they may of paired you up with an ADR load. By asking you’re age, they may of wanted to know for insurance stipulations (may have to declare it to the insurance for example).
Did the green barrels have any hazardous markings? May simply of been lawn feed?
I wouldn’t worry about it, as long as you do your checks to make sure you aren’t carrying anything dangerous in big quantities then you’ll be fine. And I’m sure it’s up to the employer to make sure you’re covered by insurance? If so, it would of been their loss had you had an accident.

Have a pop into your local garden centre and look at any of the boxes or cans of lawn feed. Plenty hazardous I can assure you.
A couple of barrels of weedkiller is likely to come under permitted carriage. I used to collect shotgun cartridges from Hull Cartridge Company years ago and because of the small amount, didn’t need ADR.
A couple of barrels isn’t anything to worry about.
They were probably just asking if you had adr to help their planning, knowing that you hadn’t meant that you were there to collect the non-adr or limited quantities, nothing to worry about, it happens every day.
If you’re not informed it’s ADR, then it’s not
I wouldn’t worry about it, under 25 they might have just used the agencies insurance instead of their own, none-adr they probably made sure you were under the legally allowed amounts of chemicals.
I’m ADR trained and I haven’t got a clue what I can carry in what quantities before I have to show my orange plates etc, it’s not my job to know, it’s the companies DGSA’s job to inform the T/M to inform me when it goes into ADR.
I’ve picked up loads of drums of chemicals with some scary labels on and they’ve been outside scope by being below the quantity threshold of ADR.
Before my training, I was always worried I’d been conned into carrying something I shouldn’t, I now realise that it was never my problem.
Even carried containers with stickers on for things such as ‘flammable liquids’ or similar, were usually cars being transported and the stickers were for when they’re on the boat.

I’ll wait for one of the ADR experts to confirm or deny this, but I’m fairly sure you can carry a full 26 pallet load of shotgun shells without ADR.
This ‘freight’ company normally only use drivers over 25 but when I had a ‘route’ to do for them (I’ve done multi and trunking) they were fine, that was a good few years ago when I was 21.

Well Worded
At least they bothered asking rather than just chucking you the keys…
Its quite laughable really, if you’re not ADR trained then how would you know what or what isnt ADR, i mean we all have a tank off fuel on our vehicles, so if you were asked to move some barrels with flammable liguid labels on, well you might just think well my fuel tank is flammable whats the difference. those of us that either are or were trained would have no excuse, because at one point we taught about ADR work, but a total novice to the industry might just as easily thought it was make off truck
Just a thought
