Ok, I will admit I have Borrowed this thread from the US site, but thought it was quite good.
Mine was an old Iveco Turbo 16 tonner, a complete heap, it had a six speed box but would never let you use more then about 4. But those 4 you could use would change on a daily basis Still, it was a learning curve at the time
Leyland Mandata - what a joy to behold , hopeless, would’nt pull your hat off!
By the time I’d finished I had a muscle bound arms, power steering was useless. Leyland Buffalo was no better. 110’s and F89’s - luxury
Leyland Boxer rigid in 1971, a most forgetable vehicle. These were from the Leyland Redline plant in Bathgate from which several other insignificant series of truck emerged.
Guy Rope:
Im with Bren ANY ERF especially with that dog of a box the twin splitter (cue twin splitter fans to send in mails saying how brill twin splitters are)
But twin splitters are brilliant. If you hated them, you weren’t using it right!

I have to agree about the twin splitter being one of the best boxes ever, but some of the trucks they fitted them in let the gearbox down.
Every where ive ever worked if someone, even the supporters, of these foul gear boxes had the chance to get out of one and into a normal four over four etc. you would be trampled in the rush.
In the UK ;- A Ford Transcontinental reg PNH 2 R that had the ■■■■■■■ engine and the regular gear box taken out and a Detroit with a road ranger box pit in their place … everyone at Swifts hated the thing
In the USA ;- A Frieghtliner Classic XL that had a turning circle wider than the QE2.
i don’t know why so many people dislike ERF’s i can only think they’ve happened to have driven a bad’n, i like em and so do a lot of drivers, my next wagon will almost certainly be an ERF, the ■■■■■■■ m11 and sixteen speed syncro takes some beating.
I agree Paul I had a brand new ERF 'C’series in 89 when I worked for Fed Ex, it had a ■■■■■■■ and an eaton box, it was a dream to drive, I used it on a Crick -Exeter C/O five nights a week and apart from the junctions on and off the motorways I never dropped below 60 mph and between J18 of the M1 and Exeter I never had to move the gear lever

…and I agree with Malc.
Even when the 'box on the one ERF I had for any length of time started to knack (OK going up but had to start using the clutch to come down) I was loathe to hand it in as I knew the motor was due to be replaced and I wouldn’t get it back
Every cloud has a silver lining though and the replacement was a DAF 85 400 and was one of my favourite motors despite having driven some of the ‘more desirable’ trucks.
As for worse truck ever; got to be an old Foden (Sission Tpt) with a ‘range change splitter box’. It was one of my first few artic jobs (agency) and the yard man admitted it was a ‘dog’. Full weight with pre-cast concrete pieces from East Leeds to Blackburn town centre building site - baptism of fire or what??

Lol at the company my dad works for, in the days of Turbo’s and Turbostars they had this H reg Turbo that the mechanic took the gearbox to bits on and put back together, but totally wrong so what should be 1st gear became 4th for example and so on. I think in the end someone blew it up when the regular driver got another one and it was used by other people, one of whom was going down the A63 out of Hull and accidentally dropped it into what was now first…bang went the Iveco!
