That place was dire. Had blotted it from my memory it was so traumatic. Remember the alsation that lived in the kitchen.

Swindon truckstop !
The frying pan was a wok filled with oil, the female (best I could call her) used to drop the egg in the pan, and fish it out with a fishing net
Just reading that I can smell the stench of stale grease you get when you walk through the door.
I’ve even taken to going in Sainsburys for the loo ever since the cleaner stood outside the cubicle door whistling for ten minutes whilst I nipped one off.

Ross cattle market grease wagon (as of 5+ years ago anyway) with any luck its closed down or been condemned, quarantined and burnt to ashes by now.
Had to be the worst food outlet this side of a open cesspit I do remember. Think the mangy dog they kept in the kitchen ended up as breakfast

Then that was probably the most appetising meal they ever served there, assuming of course you’re talking about the German Shepherd and not his missus!
there used to be a great one on the A40, clean, everything cooked fresh, very hygiene responsible ( had his own toilet in the van that towed it ) all aluminium was a pleasure to go there, on then other hand, there was another one on the A40 where I stopped for a cuppa and an egg and bacon sarnie, he told me he couldn’t serve bacon because of his religion, I had a sausage instead, but told him he was gonna lose a lot of business, and yes he was Asian.
The one on the A40 Eastbound near Eynsham “Fat Ladies” (the one with the scrambling track behind it). Burger so oily it practically slid out of the baps.
Swindon Truckstop never eaten there as the stench and a look through the windows put me off. Rude bird in the shop there too. The “smart pay” pump wouldn’t accept my Keyfuels card despite being the Keyfuels pump. I went in to let them know and the miserable cow said “your card’s probably ■■■■■■. What am I meant to do?” Tell you what I did, ■■■■■■ off and vowed never to return. One truckstop that I hope gets bulldozed. ■■■■ hole.

Still open, went passed it a few months ago on way to Dayla.
Woman and fella working there, no business and man was sunbathing whilst woman was away with the fairies on the phone.
The Hungry Pig on Wolverhampton Road, took over from The Greedy Pig which was top notch before they sold up (the new owners have the cafe on the A5 opposite The New Hollies), they were caught with rat droppings found in the kitchen,
walsalladvertiser.co.uk/Wals … story.html
Everthing has dropped in standard and prices increased. Sauages are grade z pork, cardboard and rusk. Beans cheap crap. Fried bread done the mass production way and a nice little helping of Rat ■■■■ with every meal
I tell you what I’m really glad I “woke up” earlier this year and changed my eating habits, the problem was on top of the inactivity of the last 5+ yrs I also packed in smoking 15 months ago, it came to June of this year and it suddenly dawned on me I’d put on over 6 stone in those 5 yrs and about 2 stone of that was since I’d packed in the ■■■■.
No surprise considering the amount of Pizzas, takeaways, chip shop night and a big transport caf breakfast every friday with a couple of my mates plus not to mention all the crap filled ready meals from the supermarket and the sweets and cakes, etc etc.
Now I only eat proper cooked foods nothing pre-prepared no takeaways and certainly no cafe fry ups, on top of that I switched from sugar to Splenda and from white bread to wholemeal Nimble and to low fat yoghurts and fruit instead of sweets, and because of the change in my diet (not an actual diet) I’ve lost 2 & 1/2 stone since June.
Least now when I go back on the road I wont be drawn in to eating from these horror story worthy vendors.
The sad thing is places like Swindon etc have the potential to be really good places but they are just run in to the ground.
Queernow could be excellent just spend a bit of money and make it like a mini stockyard then drivers will nip off at the junction and run up the old A1.
The problem is a lot of people still think drivers are lard tubs who want cheap food swimming in grease when in reality a lot if drivers want a more healthy or better quality meal.

Greasy Joe’s up the road at Cirencester wasn’t any better than Swindon Truckstop last time I stopped there.

It is now; it’s closed.
Zoe’s on Team Valley Ind Est, third ave if I remember correctly, is great, very clean and good food
I was stood at one when the generator stopped, he went into the boot of his car got a petrol can out, filled the generator put the empty can back then simply carried on cooking without even washing his hands, when I quizzed him he simply said “I’m going yo wash them in a minute” I told him that I would be gone 59 seconds before that happened !!
Another one on the A19 South was doing a breakfast and every time he stirred the beans he cleaned the spoon with his mouth, I didn’t even argue with that one, when he turned around I was gone !!

There’s two old caravans on that A19 one south bound in the big lay by set back and one a bit higher up north bound but I swear both were abandoned if I hadn’t seen people going in them…
I mean really who looks at these places and thinks I fancy having my breakfast in there…
That one at Guyhirn on the A47 looks abandoned but I’ve seen people going in (ghosts perhaps? )
Another one in an abandoned state is on the A46 near Mountsorrell.
That one on the A361 at Burford has a reputation.
Then on the A40 at Cassington Halt (outside the mothballed Hanson quarry), “Colonel Gaddafis.”
last time i went in the Quernhow it was a disgrace, shoddy chairs/seat and the ‘breakfast’ was awful for the money.
but i guess with nothing much around no need to worry.
