Workington to Barrow-in-Furness?

Is it best to take the A595, A591 or go back to the M6 to do this journey in a 32t tanker??
Been told the most direct route (A595) is a swine of a road.

Cheers Ant

Drove the A595 a few years ago in an artic. Was ok.

Yes, I’ve done that journey, wouldn’t dream of going back to the M6, the A595 isn’t the fastest road in the land but there is nothing on it to come to grief over.

Used to go from Workington to barrow every Friday down the 595 carrying hides from slaughter house in a 17t Leyland Freighter curtain sider, back in the 90s dont know how much it has changed but no problems used to see plenty of artics on it, few narrow places but just take your time.

It’s not that bad, not the best either, but no need to touch the 591. Just watch out for the Clampetts the south side of Gosforth.

Apart from a multi-million pound 3-mile long by-pass round Distington that saves you all of 30 seconds, nothing’s changed.

595 is the shortest but narrow and twisty between millom and greenodd. Burlington quarry is closed til new year so there’ll be no tippers to make life difficult. Watch out at duddon bridge. Askam is now closed to hgv traffic.

A595 shortest route but time wise I reckon about the same, and maybe more fuel efficient going M6 A66.
