As I have mentioned in another thread, there is a get out of jail card given to employers that have workers work closely to another worker such as furniture removal men.
My job is very hands on and a lot of manual handling with 2 or 3 of us lifting heavy items in close proximity. When I complained to management that we cannot possibly do our job (Non essential even though management says it is), they dug deep into a publication by Public Health England that states "where possible workers must work 2 metres away from each other.
This is a total cop out by the government as they keep banging out that you must stay at home (unless your job means you cannot work from home)
They are banging on that you must keep 2 metres aprt from each other (unless your job means you cannot)
I want to stay at home and isolate, as I fear this disease but our company has said that they are operational and we MUST go to work unless we are ill. Yet everyday on the news the message is clear "Stay at home!!!)
As far as I can gather the eventual plan is that a large proportion of the population will get the virus and be immune. Perhaps once the field hospitals and ventilators are in place they will start to release people more. I totally get what you are saying about 2 metres. Checkout staff at supermarkets are dealing with hundreds of people a day that by necessity are closer than 2 metres. My local one does not have screens at present.
I think the focus is on minimising cases for the NHS at the minute. Hopefully you are not in a vulnerable group, but if you are I would seek advice.

Please correct me if I am wrong but from what I have heard from Govt 80% of the UK are going to get it at some point
The issue seems to be if all 80% get it at the same time
If you NEVER want to get it then you would have to isolate until a cure is found for it which could be years!

Is my thinking or facts wrong?
My home town was the first place in the UK to have the first coronavirus cases in the uk 2 months ago, 2 out of a family of 3 had it and recovered, since then we have had 19 more official cases, there must have been a lot more since then here, more so when i talked to the customers i picked up in my taxi, as in the UK 99% only suffer mild symptoms, and you also have those who have it that dont have any symptoms at all, herd immunisation requires over 60% of the population to catch it to stop it, but you have to isolate the very old and those that have underlying health problems for at least 12 weeks to protect them, and I think thats what all this is about.

Money still rules this country.
Hand in your notice and leave. There are hundreds of drivers laid off elsewhere who will be glad of your job.

I dont think so.
Its a job where its proven that drivers dont want to do it as it involves very little driving and a lot of manual handling in mud/snow/rain/dust/heat etc etc. Its not really a driving job and most drivers will not do what we do.

That’s not your concern or problem to worry about. The company has put forward their argument which falls within the current government rules. You don’t agree it so your next step is to vote with your feet, hand in your notice and seek employment elsewhere. By continuing to work there you are demonstrating that the virus and social distancing is not as important to you as what you’re claiming.
There seems to be many people who think that these social distancing measures will prevent them for getting the virus which is incorrect
The idea is to prevent everyone getting the virus at the same time
Sooner or later those that are going to get the virus will get it and those who are going to sadly die from it will do so
The only way further deaths can be prevented is to have a cure and as that is not likely for months or years so to stop any more deaths would be to have a total isolation for all those who may die until such a cure is found
Which Govt is going to make a vulnerable section of the population go into isolation for months or years? - none me thinks
