whats the difference between working time and driving time?? and what happens when you make your delvery and you are off loading, or vice versa loading, what symbol on tacograph do you remain in, help much apprecated
If the engine is making brum-brum noises and you are moving, thatâs driving time. Anything else is working time (crossed hammers) unless you are on break. Not going to mention POA if you canât work out what driving time is
Driving time is when you are driving, or stationary but sat at the controls in a state of preparedness to drive, for example when sitting in a queue of traffic.
As for what to do when loading/unloading, if you are doing the actual loading yourself, e.g. with a pallet trolley then that is âother workâ, if you are sat in the cab reading a newspaper etc while somebody else loads the vehicle then that can be considered to be a break and you can put your tacho on rest.
If youâre loading/unloading yourself or doing any other kind of work the tachograph should be on other work, it will change automatically to driving when the vehicle moves, no need to manually put it on driving, in fact you canât because on modern tachographs thereâs no switch position for driving
Harry Monk:

As this is the new and wannabe drivers forum itâs probably worth clarifying this, as Harry Monk says the legal definition of driving is to be sat in the drivers seat with control of the vehicle (or something like that) regardless of whether or not the vehicle is moving.
However driving time for the EU tachograph regulations is only whatâs recorded on the tachograph as driving time, and give or take a few seconds that will only be when the vehicle is moving
For instance if youâre sat in a traffic jam and not moving, the tachograph would automatically record it as other work then when the vehicle moves it would automatically change to driving time.
Unless youâre working to domestic rules in which case the drivers hours definition of driving is the same as the legal definition of driving.
Not at-all confusing is it !!
thanxs guys
dont forget the 6 hours working time bit as well
