Working over Easter?

Is good friday a statutory bank holiday … ie should you get paid double if you work it?

I work tuesday to saturday with sunday and monday off so I dont even benefit from the bank holiday monday. Working friday, working saturday, sunday off, monday off with no time off in leu cos i dont work mondays anyway. Might get a cadbury cream egg if I get back early enough.

Depends on the contract of employment

gov.uk/bank-holidays

There is no law says you get double time for bank holidays, or anything extra at all.

  1. There is no statutory right for employees to take bank holidays off work. Any right to time off depends on the terms of the employee’s contract of employment.

  2. When an employee works on a bank holiday, there is no statutory right to extra pay — for example time and a half or double time. Any right to extra pay depends on the terms of the employee’s contract of employment.

  3. A part-time worker has the right not to be treated less favourably than a comparable full-time worker. This includes entitlement to bank holidays. The best practice — and safest — approach to part-time employees is to give them a pro rata allowance of paid bank holidays, irrespective of whether or not they normally work on the days on which bank holidays fall.

  4. If an employee is required to work on bank holidays under the terms of their employment contract, the employee cannot refuse to work, even for religious reasons. However, employers should be aware that a refusal to grant Christian employees time off for any of the bank holidays with religious significance could amount to indirect religious discrimination if it places them at a particular disadvantage when compared with employees of other faiths, or non-religious employees.

  5. If employers have worded contracts to say that employees are entitled to “statutory entitlement plus bank holidays” this no longer denotes 20 days’ leave plus eight bank holidays. Following the increase in statutory minimum leave from four to 5.6 weeks, this will grant 28 days’ holiday with eight bank holidays on top. Check your employment contracts to determine if this could be an issue.

S0 drivers who don’t normally work on Mondays would usually have some compensation built in to their contract if that puts them at a disadvantage compared to their fellow drivers who do [normally] work Mondays.

working friday (day off in lieu),and working monday as o/t (time and a half).

Load down to Sudbury on Saturday and then a couple of locals on Monday. Downside to being your own boss……… Bank holidays can be non existent if work comes on!

Every year I get asked to work and every year the answer’s the same. not paying enough!

Avoid late late starts tonight, and early doors starts Saturday morning.

Premium rate for good Friday, or stay at home. :sunglasses:

i want to work, but apparently every agy i am registered with says there is no work ,

I get treble time

… but even at minimum wage, that’s nearly £19ph.

I guess it’s a “paper rate” - that is, you only get it in theory as the shifts don’t actually exist that pay it.

Same applied to me at RM for 20+ years. Never worked Christmas day for the hallowed rate once! Worked all but 2 good Fridays though for the day off in lieu and double time (reduced to time and a half in 2002 if I recall)
Yet you always seem to see some 600’s running around, should you ever be out in your car on Christmas day whilst visiting relatives…

No I work thurs to mon every week. Good Friday start time lunchtime. The treble pay (or 2 days off extra or double time and one day off) lasts till midnight. It will be the same on Monday as well. This is a staff not not agency. My treble time will be about £29 ish an hour plus a pound or two an hour shift allowance and a couple of quid tax free meal allowance.

I’m on Sunday-Thursday nights so working tonight, which should be my bank holiday (my choice) pays me treble time with no day off in lieu, guaranteed minimum 9.5hrs = £41.40/hr near enough…same with Sunday night, which would also be my bank holiday. That’s why I work all of em!!! :grimacing: I guess if you are on a shift pattern that coincides with the bank holidays, you don’t get the rates

<<<<<< and you describe wales as a craphole? Where is this paragon of an employer that’s giving you over a fiver for the time it takes to have a crap at work?? :open_mouth:  :stuck_out_tongue:

This employer is in England over 45 miles away (90 mile round trip everyday) so it’s not all roses. Nearly 2 hours and £15 a day travelling.

No  not working! :sunglasses: double time and a day in lieu = treble time if I work  but I get 26 days plus 8 bank holidays :grimacing: :grimacing: I’m off fishing till Monday night! :bulb:

I’ve been asked several times lately to go into the Co-op @ Thurrock without the need for an assessment as they’re “desperate”. Paying £10.35 ph Mon-Fri and £15+ for Good Friday. I’ll pass thanks!
