Working out of madrid

I live in Aranjuez Madrid moved here Christmas 2006 I work for a frozen fish company in Getafe.
Monday I load and run to Sevilla, Tuesday deliver Sevilla and Malaga run part way back, Wednesday finish at dinner time, Thursday Friday do Sevilla only if there is enough orders.
I spend 80% of my Tuesday nights on the A4 kilometer 217 northbound in the Agip petrol station restaurant they have a system of collecting 8 stamps on a card for every menu you buy then you then you get a free menu, if I don’t have enough time to get there I sometimes I stop at kilometer 280 northbound in the bar next to the truck stop shop.
I see there a few guys living here running to the UK if you fancy meeting pm me and I’ll send you my mobile no.

that km 280 is a favourite of mine good truckwash and shop and the foods good too i’ll pm you as well as this post

langp29, how is the job situation for class 1 drivers in Spain at the moment?

Are the wages reasonable to live on?

Any info would be appreciated…looking into a possible move to Spain currently.

Cheers.

You want the truth ? don’t bother there are thousands of Spanish drivers out of work at the moment your chances of finding work will be virtually zero even if you should speak Spanish

Vascoingles thanks for that. Truth is preferable for questions like this.

How are you remaining in employment in Spain (assuming you are not Spanish)? Not a p%ss take, I’m just curious as you seem to be bucking the trend successfully, given your comments.

I don’t really know what the job situation is like because I live her because my wife is Spanish and she lived in Manchester for 14 years and she wanted to move back to Madrid to be closer to her family. I got my job through a member of her family whose best friend owns the company I work for so it was a case of not what you know but who you know but like the other guy says there are a lot of Spanish drivers unemployed and a lot more Bulgarians and Romanians out of work. I came here with a basic level of Spanish, changing countries is tough enough on its own without looking for ajob and a possible language problem. I would never say never but its very tough.

I married a Spanish woman years ago and just stayed and learned the language while at the same time keeping the job I had with a Dutch comapny as a driver and now I manage one of their Spanish deptos in the Basque area near San Sebastian
