Ok fellas help needed here 
with the new working time directive i can work 60 hours a week max ? as long as they work out at an average of 48 hours in a 17 week period ?..but can my employer enforce me/us to work 60 hours
if we dont wish to…i.e we only get paid for 45 hours and dont get paid overtime .

I think slavery was abolished quite some time ago. If they pay for 45 hours then they can have that… … nothing more. I certainly wouldn’t be giving them 15 hours a week for free… … …

well no they cant force you to work overtime, certainly not for free.
if they tried sacking you for refusing you would have an open and shut case for unfair dismissal.
