you can work in an eu country with a uk licence so france is fine. same with holland, germany etc etc.

I think you will find that this subject has been covered loads of times before.

Apparently you need a French qualification called a FIMA or something like that!!

Your best bet would be to PM a few TN members based out there, Spardo for one springs to mind!! …failing that im sure you will get loads of informative (and sometimes contradictory) replies!!!

Bear in mind that just cos the EU chiefs say its ok to do something doesnt mean that the French will take any notice though!!!

With regard to the licence ,that’s no problem, but some (most) employers will prefer you to have a French licence. All you do is go to the prefecture in your Department with your UK licence ,2 utility bills FT and EDF and passport etc and a stamped addressed envelope and surprisingly for France there is no charge for this.
Now the harder part, first you will have to do a course and an exam called FIMO and then the other which is FCOS which you have to retake every 5 years. There is more written about the exams in history on this site as the question seems to raise its head 3 or 4 times a year,

As Bullitt said you will get contradictory replies. This not because non of us residents can agree on anything more because each Departement in France is to a large extent a law unto itself. What Kerbut says about having a French licence is perfectly accurate where he lives but in my Departement (Dordogne 24) I was told quite firmly that I had to change to a French licence before I could turn a wheel (HGV that is, not car).
Having said that, when I did my FCOS course there was a Portuguese driver there who was still using his Porto licence after 15 years - still in the Dordogne but from a different Sub-Prefecture. :open_mouth:
So, to sum up, we can’t tell you except to follow Kerbut’s advice, take all your stuff to your local Prefecture.

One thing I forgot to add was you will need to take with you is 2 passport size photos. If your user name is where you live in 29 you may be able to do it at the Sous-Prefecture in Morlaix, but when I changed mine the Sous at Dinan would not do it and I had to go to St Brieuc. If you cant do it at Morlaix you will have to go to Quimper.
