Working as self-employed?

Hi guys,

I just received a phone call from a guy offering me Class 1 job as a self employed driver, since I have no idea if it is worth to follow please tell me what you think of it. What are pros and cons of such work.

No real problem there. He provides the work and vehicle and you invoice him for the work you do. You will need to register as self employed with HMRC. You can find details at hmrc.gov.uk/selfemployed/reg … elfemp.htm

You will need to keep receipts for all payments out that you make as well as a record of all income. You can either do your own accounts and complete a self assessment form online each year or use an accountant that specialises in sole traders. They tend to charge around £300-£400 per year but that can be a price well paid for the potential tax savings and general hassle they can help you with.

Being self employed does come with certain Inland Revenue conditions, i.e you should make yourself available to other customers as well or you may be seen as being fully employed by the guy but the accountant will advise you.
