Workers over 50

I’m so glad that I choose a job that I like. I dont mind doing what I like, till I’m well into my 60’s or hopefully 70’s…

You have to make the most of this life. Enjoy what you do, it makes it beter.

I dont understand how so many truck drivers hate the job they choose, and paid to be able to do, so much, that they rather sit at home and vegetate…

Mind you, very few of them have worked 12xhour shifts in a factory, or any other dead end job.
Grow up.

I’m glad you enjoy what you do. I’m sure some drivers vegetate. I’m betting others have good other things they could do with their life that is far more personally rewarding than spending the best part of their day stuck on the M25 or in a waiting room.

Personally, if I got told my purpose in life was to driving bog roll or coke up and down the country til I die I think I’d rather just end it now.

Bloody hell.!.Something I actually agree with you on. :open_mouth:
On the whole people only go to work at any job because they have to in order to live, if you like the job you do it’s as bonus.
That is why the middle rich do ■■■■ all. :bulb:

Why do some equate staying at home with vegetating ?
I love being at home,.I can always find something to do.

You can guarantee on this forum some sad ■■■■ with no life will come on and say…‘‘Sick of these hols,.I’d rather be back at work’’ :unamused:
There is far more to life than spending it in a ■■■■ truck …with spotlights.on the roof and such crap. :unamused:

I’m 52 and I won’t be retiring any time soon but the thought of another 15+ years behind the wheel makes me very sad.

don’t be sad Gavv…get a driving job you can enjoy!

I’m not sure any geriatrics over 50 are in a fit state to do much work frankly

when you look around, there are not too many HGV drivers UNDER 50

I went out in my car this morning, as I passed the wood pile I saw my landlord, Farmer Don, throwing scrap pallets into his trailer, right now he’ll be sawing them up then splitting them with a hand axe, later I’ll probably see him slinging bales of hay around to feed the horses or maybe out doing something on his tractor. He’s 96.

The thought of driving trucks into my 60s or even 70s is depressing to say the least. Anyone who doesn’t need to work full time yet can live comfortably is in my mind in a better place than someone who needs to be banging in the hours at all times of the day and night. Maybe the state giving out HGV licences to everyone and his dog hasn’t managed to coax people into the haulage industry…I wonder why.

I’d sooner be working this week but not because I don’t have a life, rather because I’d prefer to have more time off in the Summer.

This is the problem with youth, they judge everyone by their own standards.

Find that hard to believe

Fair point for of course I am a very young youth. Did I mention I’m a youth?

Think there is quite a few factory jobs that ain’t dead end jobs…in fact a lot of factories have more holidays , quite good pensions and working conditions…that’s probably why most have retired at 50 plus.

Most of them have got more sense. :stuck_out_tongue:

I snapped my pole on Christmas eve.
Instantly ordered a replacement section, without a second thought.
This is why I still work.

I’ll probably carry on working over the Winter period when I get to retirement age. I find it helps enormously to know that I will be working for a finite period- I’m currently exactly 50% through my current stint as I plan on finishing at Easter- and I have a fairly agreeable job anyway which doesn’t involve early starts or long shifts. I enjoy the interaction with the lads at work and much of my shift is spent just sitting around reading or on the internet etc. Also I’m keeping warm using the truck diesel rather than burning my own coal which makes a big difference especially as coal has doubled in price this year.

I’m one of them sad ■■■■■■■ I’m 57 and after a couple of days off I start getting itchy feet and start looking forward to getting back to work.

As for wanting to retire in my 50s not a chance, if my health there I plan to keep going till I’m 70.

After writing this I even think what a saddo but it’s one of my hobbies As well as my living.
