after the first world war we had blind disabled veterans on street corners selling matches,because there was no work for them.
after the second world war much of the same but more shell shocked veterans, every town had one.
in my hometown, it was an ex navy man called hoppy, who would hop of the kerb and spin round and round in the road.

soon every town will have a veteran from iraq or afghanistan, who will most likely have a leg or arm or one of each blown off, be deaf or blind as well.
due to doctors having more skills to save lifes they are surviving really bad injuries that would have killed them in previous conflicts.the army or media dont show homecomings of disabled ex squaddies,except for the token one at the cenotaph on the 11th of nov.
the unlucky ones who died will end up being forgotten by all but there family in some church cemetery.
if thats what going to war is all about,i pity anyone who wants to praise any of our leaders or the efforts they have made in iraq or afghanistan.
